Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 7.9.3 released

2020-10-03 Thread bobofruit

Can not understand why but the last working version for my Transporter
and ReadyNAS PRO 2 (firmware 4.2.31) is:

7.9.1 - working
7.9.2 - not working
7.9.3 - not working

Nothing can be done with those version 7.9.3 on mysqueezebox.com.
Those information according working and stable version 7.9.3 is not true
for all of us.

Can I safely update to 7.9.4?

The only difference between 7.9.3 and 7.9.4 so far is the version number
and the changelog stub entry :-).

At far as I know this means that in this moment of time LMS 7.9.4 is the
same as LMS 7.9.3, apart from the version number and the date.
When bugs are found there may be a new release of 7.9.4, with a new
date.

Until yesterday, the update URL pointed to a download page where one had
to select an architecture before downloading. It now points directly to
a .deb targetted at "all".

...

Is this change expected?

yes, that change is restoring previous behaviour

And, since I previously downloaded and
installed the i386 .deb, is it safe and proper to now download and
install the "all" .deb?

It's safe, but not recommended. You should stick with i386, as that's
all you need. The deb flavour would come with the overhead of libraries
for x86_64, ARM, and probably even SPARC CPUs.

(I run a web-watching script to make sure I don't miss out on upgrades,
which has happened in the past. If there's a better place to monitor
than the above URL, I'd be happy to use it instead.)

Use debi386 as the OS string instead of just deb:

https://www.mysqueezebox.com/update/?version=7.9.0=1=1=debi386

That should give you the link to the much smaller file you actually need.

yes, tried both repos, same error in the end of the script:

Downloading update from A new version of Logitech Media Server is
available (7.9.3). Click http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download;
target="update">here to download.
wget: bad address 'A'
Download FAILED.. exiting!

I guess I just don't understand the steps to update. I had lms on
windows for years and years and the updates were done with a click. I am
confused about the process for pcp. For example -

Pcp UI ->LMS -> Nightly Update, there is a radio button for "Update" and
one for Click "here" to download. The "more" doesn't provide any insight
as to which to do, or both? When I click "update" I get the failure
above, if I click "here" I go to mysb.com and get a list of versions to
download from. But you go to the pcp help and it provides the
instructions for using ssh.

I am realizing I never updated the pcp LMS before, just clean installs,
hence my quandary

This probably belongs on the picore 6 thread, but since I am trying to
update to 7.9.3 I thought I would try for the quick answer here...

What is the best way to update LMS on a PiCore? I use the PcP UI
->LMS->Nightly update and I get a "Bad Address 'A' Exiting..." message,
I tried the same via ssh as per the instructions here:

Then I'd say there's a networking problem on your system. But you better
ask in a pCP discussion.

Hi,

the update from 7.9.2 to 7.9.3 worked without problem for me (Debian
10).

Thanks for the work. It was my first ever update of this community
version, so I was a bit vervous. For no reason, I guess :) . I was
running 7.7.6 like forever until my NAS began failing and only then I
installed to this community version a few weeks ago on my NAS
replacement.
