Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Slim Server

From my memory it went SlimServer -> SqueezeCenter -> Squeezebox Server
-> Logitech Media Server. (At least on Linux anyway)

Whatever :-)

Slimserver was the first server, for the SliMP3 player

The very first was SliMP3, like the player ;-)

Under Centos the service is still "squeezeboxserver"

Slimserver was the first server, for the SliMP3 player

the music is on my PC which is in the spare bedroom, my router is also
next to the computer, but my hifi and speakers are in the living room. I
live in a flat, so the rooms are next to each other, there is no stairs.

I bought a BT Broadband Extender Flex 600 kit to hard wire the PC and
squeezebox and it was better than wifi. I have reset the 2 plugs of this
kit, and they both seem to be working perfectly as normal.

I tried to connect the PC and SB wirelessly but it went through the
connection procedure and failed to connect, exactly the same as using
the hard wire.

You need something to connect to your amp - Pi will do this, or a Yamaha
WXAD-010. I'd advise against a chromecast for this purpose.

You need to sort out how you are going to run LMS - a Pi can also do
thia as well as being a squeezebox player

I've seen raspberry pi magazines. Are they better than a squeezebox ?

Ditto a Chromecast audio ?

I just want to stream music to my speakers via my amp, like the SB has
been doing.

My squeezebox classic is bust, I think. I need to get it fixed, or try
something else.

Wasn’t it SqueezeCenter->Squeezebox Server?

Not sure, tbh. I thought "SqueezeCenter" was after the "Server" period,
when marketing considered that term too geeky. Changing to LMS was three
marketing teams later :-D

Slim Devices was bought by Logitech in 2006, so then the names started
changing but it's all one ongoing project. You want the latest Logitech
Media Server (LMS) installation for compatibility, bug fixes, the latest
plugins, and support. It's all free and does not demand a lot of your
hardware, so why not?

LMS: SGC microJukebox • Players: Duet, Touch (two), ultraRendu, Mac
SqueezePlay, Win Squeezelite-X • Control apps: Android Squeezer, Win
Squeezelite-X

You want Logitech Media Server:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=7.9

You'll need to configure a Raspberry Pi to be a player:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?106910-HOW-TO-Squeezebox-player-on-Raspberry-Pi-with-(or-without)-HiFiBerry-board

Or you can purchase one pre-built:
https://www.allo.com/sparky/miniboss-player.html

Or with some plugins you can use a Chromecast Audio.

Control via web browser or phone/tablet.

Squeezebox Server became Logitech Media Server. I don't know if it had
a name before "Squeezebox" came into use; probably.

Did the slim server precede the Logitech Squeezebox ?

What is the difference and would a slim server perform a basic streaming
from a PC to an old amplifier ?
