Just a thought here... You can use any controller to control any player.
For instance if you have a Pie player hooked up to the stereo you can
control it from a web browser on a PC or an app on your phone like
Orange Squeeze. For some reason I'm getting the impression you think you
must use a controller on the device you're playing music from. Any/all
controller can control any player device. For instance in the web
interface click on the dropdown and you can select the player you want
to play from.

You can use the device name with -o as well. Provided there are no
unicode characters in it.

This is my nssm appparameters.

-o "Speakers/Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio) [Windows
DirectSound]" -C 15

The bad part about NSSM (I use NSSM for Squeezelite and it's perfect) is
it works so well I'd forgotten how I always had my laptop show up as a
player and I couldn't remember how I'd implemented it until I started
reading this thread.

True. I think I preferred NSSM because it has the ability to silently
restart the app if for some reason it crashes.

OK, the material skin works fine and look cool, but does not provide a
local player on a pc, you have to run at least Squeezelite for that and
control it with LMS using material skin.

Squeezelite-X still not working: will post the log file to the
appropriate forum as kindly suggested by another user.

I run Material plugin in a Chrome app and an instance of Squeezeplay
(minimised) when I (rarely) want a player on the PC.
This is essentially what Squeezelie-X does (except itÂ’s Squeezeplay
instead of Squeezelite) but you can leave the Chrome app window open
full screen if you wish. It works with a Touchscreen.

You might try using NSSM to run Squeezelite as a service, if
Squeezelite-X is not working for you.

The only complexity about it is that you need to specify the audio
output device number in your startup parameters:

Thanx for your reply: do you mean the LMS material skin plugin and then
Squeezelite-X or just using LMS web interface with that skin? I have

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Windows clients opinions

2019-08-20 Thread psychokiller

Hi All,

I have been an happy user for LMS for more than an year now, have built
a few devices with Raspberry Pi 3 and Zero and squeezelite (some
piCorePlayer based, some DietPi based, some with no display, some with
LCD display, some with 7'' touch display) and mostly used them with
Squeezer.

Totally satisfied by the software and also used SqueezePlay on a PC with
a cheap DAC+headphone amp.

Now kids are turning into teens and along with my wife they wish to use
the LMS library from a PC as well and things are getting hairy, not from
a technical perspective, but from a user experience point of view: kids
find SqueezePlay Interface counterintuitive and would prefer a more
Windows 10 style interface (both kids have a convertible laptop with
touchscreen), wife might use use it but she also find it awkward on a
PC.

Have tried Squeezelite-X but with little success: it often hangs or has
problems and it is evident that it is a web browser in disguise in many
way, so the experience isn't the best on a convertible.

Are these the only two options for playing music on a PC from LMS
(browing the library and sharing playlists, not just streaming)? Does
anybody know of any other client or plugin for well known music players
available.

I have tried using LMS from Windows Media Player as a DLNA source (with
DLNA plugin installed on LMS) but it is very slow and rarely show all
the library. Anyone using DLNA players for PC with LMS who is satisfied
by the user experience? What player?

Thanx for any information you might share.

Paolo
