Turns out the Squeezelite-X with the disabled DAC *was* synchronized
with all other players. Could this have caused the "skipping" error on
the other players? Still seems odd.
In that instance of SLX/Material, when I opened "Synchronize" at the
bottom of the players list, I found all other

yes for Bandcamp. Be sure to tick "show 3rd party plugins" on the LMS >
Settings > plugins page.

There's also a plugin for Soundcloud. Some time ago I have used it
myself, so can't guarantee it still works.
