Squid wont' give an "access denied" in case of a 404. Squid will cache 404
replies for a while if required. The fact that squid is returning an Access
Denied means something about the request didn't match an allow ACL or matched
a deny ACL.
You should try to understand why Squid is returning an "A

Still setting up my reverse https proxy server. I have it working to a
degree except that when I connect to the site it seems to be rewriting the
address from https to http.
The server in the back end is talking to squid with http but I want it https
