Hi Adrian and Christos,
For the time being I have installed 2.6.17 instead ... I will await the next
stable release for 3.0. Thanks for all the help ... 2.6.17 works perfect
with WMP and HTTP 1.1
Cheers
Bert.
Hi Christos,
I use the FreeBSD ports system. So how do I apply this patch?
TIA
Bert.

The problem is that the server responds with chunked encoding response.
It is not squid3.0 bug but http server bug. The server should not
respond with such response to an HTTP 1.0 request.
The related entry in squid3 bugzila is the bug#1148:

There could be many things affecting the speed of your proxy in relation

Adrian,
I found some references about the "Vary: Accept-Encoding" header and IE7 ...
it seems that IE7 has problems with it and only seem to accept "Vary:
User-Agent" headers" ?!?

Hmmm, if I do that can I keep my current squid

Hi,
I would recommend you to put some monitoring system on your squid box
to compare the true difference between the servers.

Adrian,
Actually I didn't use wireshark at all ... I found some info on Squid not
supporting HTTP 1.1 and I just disabled it ... seemed to be the solution. I
*could* do the whole exercise again with wireshark of course, but I do not
have X11 installed and I was not certain if wireshark would do

Please still do the wireshark dump and post results here?
There's no reason why Squid should be causing a problem
Adrian,
I found the problem ... Squid 3 doesn't support HTTP 1.1 ... when I disable
it in IE7 then everything works just fine ..
Bert.

Try running wireshark/ethereal/tcpdump on the squid server and see what its
trying to do..
