I do not think so. Fragments are used to lower disk usage, with big
fragments you'll have to decrease your cache size (and that will decrease
your cache effectivity). The recommended solution of this problem does not
mention fragment size.

is the directory writeable for the user?
isn't it on read-only filesystem?

you should only use one cache directory on one disk.

Oh, my mistake: sorry.

Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity...
L3 switch, so I have one
IP that users connect to. If the squid is slower while rebuilding and
validating its storage, it is possible without any harm to configure squid
to do both actions first, and start serving requests later.
would that have performance effect?

irst case, it would happen that 5X faster disk would get 5X more
requests, not taking whole capacity...
I was thinking about configuring slower disk for larger files, while
letting squid store small files only on the faster disk - that should do
it. But I should probably check the sources :)

gs of memory?
I am not sure if the FreeBSD system does allow process take more than 2GB
of RAM. IIRC, linux allows up to 2GB and there is patcvh for allowing 3GB,
but that is a hardware limit, caused by 32bit addressing on i386
architecture.
This might be the problem.

s, 2649 MB are usd as buffers
and disk cache (472MB for buffers and 2154MB of disk cache). That means,
only a bit more than one quarter of whole RAM is used for programs.
using swap will probably not give you more performance and turning it off
should not cause any performance degradation...
