Change "ufs" to "aufs" - assuming you compiled in aufs.
Consider upgrading to Squid-2.7.STABLEx - I did a whole lot of little
performance tweaks between 2.6 and 2.7.
Learn about oprofile and submit some performance information to help
developers. :)

Hello.
Recently we have added a lot more clientes behind a squid proxy, and now cpu
utilizitaion is usually 70-95%. The processor is a intel dual core 2160 @
1.80GHz. Users started complaing about the speed on accessing pages, and the
link is fine.

This has happened before and I guess I have never gotten to the bottom of
it. All of the sudden, squid took and held onto 98% of the CPU.
The machine has plenty of CPU and RAM, not to mention disk space. There
were no warnings in the cache.log.
cache_effective_user is set to nobody.

All,
I upgraded my Squid 2.5S4 to be 2.5S5. I use a small Alpha DS-10 machine
with RH 7.2 (kernel 2.4.9).
Surprisingly the CPU utilization becomes higher and performance significanly
drop. Then I downgrade to 2.5S4 and I got back the normal condition.
Here is my option to configure both
version;
Hi,
For some reason my squid cache is running at 99% load.
I don't see any abnormal pattern in traffic and number of connections.
Agv. traffic is around 2M/sec and goes upto 3.5M/sec during peak hours.
Max File descriptor open is around 2K.
I'm running squid-2.5.stable4 on FreeBSD-4.9.
