[squid-users] Errors Compiling Squid on Windows Server using Cygwin
Hello, I have searched the previous posts and I can only find a mention of this issue from back in 2018 where the solution was to use 3.5. I would like to use 4.12 instead of older versions because of the security concerns. The following is the errors the compiler gave me: In file included from /usr/include/w32api/lm.h:18, from ext_lm_group_acl.cc:96: /usr/include/w32api/lmserver.h:29:33: error: 'SERVICE_STATUS_HANDLE' was not declared in this scope; did you mean 'SERVICE_PAUSABLE'? 29 | WINBOOL WINAPI SetServiceBits(SERVICE_STATUS_HANDLE hServiceStatus,DWORD dwServiceBits,WINBOOL bSetBitsOn,WINBOOL bUpdateImmediately); | ^ | SERVICE_PAUSABLE /usr/include/w32api/lmserver.h:29:76: error: expected primary-expression before 'dwServiceBits' 29 | WINBOOL WINAPI SetServiceBits(SERVICE_STATUS_HANDLE hServiceStatus,DWORD dwServiceBits,WINBOOL bSetBitsOn,WINBOOL bUpdateImmediately); | ^ /usr/include/w32api/lmserver.h:29:98: error: expected primary-expression before 'bSetBitsOn' 29 | WINBOOL WINAPI SetServiceBits(SERVICE_STATUS_HANDLE hServiceStatus,DWORD dwServiceBits,WINBOOL bSetBitsOn,WINBOOL bUpdateImmediately); | ^~ /usr/include/w32api/lmserver.h:29:117: error: expected primary-expression before 'bUpdateImmediately' 29 | WINBOOL WINAPI SetServiceBits(SERVICE_STATUS_HANDLE hServiceStatus,DWORD dwServiceBits,WINBOOL bSetBitsOn,WINBOOL bUpdateImmediately); | ^~ /usr/include/w32api/lmserver.h:29:135: error: expression list treated as compound expression in initializer [-fpermissive] 29 | WINBOOL WINAPI SetServiceBits(SERVICE_STATUS_HANDLE hServiceStatus,DWORD dwServiceBits,WINBOOL bSetBitsOn,WINBOOL bUpdateImmediately); | ^ In file included from ../../../../compat/compat.h:105, from ../../../../include/squid.h:43, from ext_lm_group_acl.cc:78: ext_lm_group_acl.cc: In function 'char* GetDomainName()': ext_lm_group_acl.cc:173:19: error: format '%ld' expects argument of type 'long int', but argument 3 has type 'NTSTATUS' {aka 'int'} [-Werror=format=] 173 | debug("OpenPolicy Error: %ld\n", status); | ^ ~~ | | | NTSTATUS {aka int} ../../../../compat/debug.h:31:41: note: in definition of macro 'debug' 31 | fprintf(stderr,X); \ | ^ ext_lm_group_acl.cc:173:40: note: format string is defined here 173 | debug("OpenPolicy Error: %ld\n", status); | ~~^ || |long int | %d In file included from ../../../../compat/compat.h:105, from ../../../../include/squid.h:43, from ext_lm_group_acl.cc:78: ext_lm_group_acl.cc:184:23: error: format '%ld' expects argument of type 'long int', but argument 3 has type 'NTSTATUS' {aka 'int'} [-Werror=format=] 184 | debug("LsaQueryInformationPolicy Error: %ld\n", status); | ^~~~ ~~ | | | NTSTATUS {aka int} ../../../../compat/debug.h:31:41: note: in definition of macro 'debug' 31 | fprintf(stderr,X); \ | ^ ext_lm_group_acl.cc:184:59: note: format string is defined here 184 | debug("LsaQueryInformationPolicy Error: %ld\n", status); | ~~^ | | | long int | %d In file included from ../../../../compat/compat.h:105, from ../../../../include/squid.h:43, from ext_lm_group_acl.cc:78: ext_lm_group_acl.cc:214:15: error: format '%ld' expects argument of type 'long int', but argument 3 has type 'DWORD' {aka 'unsigned int'} [-Werror=format=] 214 | debug("NetWkstaGetInfo Error: %ld\n", netret);

What am I doing incorrectly? > Your Squid is detecting the existence of Windows OS headers and trying to build a helper which has bugs in your environment. This type of problem is why the Diladele Cygwin instructions (and other OS cross-building) list the helpers to build explicitly whereas native builds can just use the auto-detect by ./configure. Doing the same for your build will both avoid this issue and reduce the size of your Squid build. Please open a bug report in our bugzilla about this so it does not get forgotten. I am not aware of anyone working on Windows bugs right now so no ETA on when it might get fixed. Re: [squid-users] Errors in cache.log
Hi. Another question in reference to this topic off delay pools. if i have "internet-limitation" (a group with 100kb for all webs) and i want that users of that group have different youtube bandwith... is this posible?? I need to do another group with the user of that group that i want they have different bandwith for youtube? if i do that i will split "internet-limitation" in "youtubegroup512kb", youtubegroup256kb... but... in this way.. i have to give http_access for other groups to?? (youtube512/256) or just because that users are in "internet-limitation"... It is not necessary? i think im completely wrong about this.. but i really dont know how to do what i want. Hi, Thanks a lot. But, i really dont get something... about delay pools you tell me that Amos Jeffries wrote > Note: requests which match the "redes_sociales adminis" ACLs have BOTH > pool #1 and pool #4 restrictions applied to them. > > Note: requests which match the "stream adminis" ACLs have BOTH pool #2 > and pool #4 restrictions applied to them. > Amos And the same for the others delay pools... But, what i think that im doing is apply for example the web pages of "redes_sociales"(social network) to "adminis"... i mean, that bandwith for those webs... and then the other delay pools for bandwith for youtube, and other delay pool for all the other webs it is not right?? Hi, I'm trying to build a transparent proxy using squid 3.1.10, iptables 1.4.10, and a custom kernel based on the standard kernel for ubuntu server 10.04 LTS, but using 2.6.37 source with the following additional kernel configs: NF_CONNTRACK=m NETFILTER_TPROXY=m NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_SOCKET=m NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_TPROXY=m To build squid, I run the .configure with the following options: --enable-linux-netfilter --prefix=/usr --localstatedir=/var --libexecdir=${prefix}/lib/squid --srcdir=. --datadir=${prefix}/share/squid --sysconfdir=/etc/squid --with-default-user=proxy --with-logdir=/var/log --with-pidfile=/var/run/squid.pid and it appears to work okay (though I can post the config.log if that's helpful). Dear Amos, Thanks for the reply. We are using the same DNS servers for our existing proxy server which is ISA2000 is working properly without any problems. We want to shift from MS-ISA2000 proxy server to Linux Squid proxy server, so we are building up this new proxy server. More over if I access the internet from the Ubuntu proxy server itself, we don't get any such errors. Can you / anyone let me know how can we resolve these issue. Remy, I'm using /etc/resolv.conf file have two entries in it. like nameserver 10.0.0.1 nameserver 10.0.0.2 tried to check the time host which is somewhere in the range of 48-50, which seems reasonably o.k. I'm also using the default cache size, which I want to increase to some extend. But I'm sure this is not a cache issue. Its surely something related to DNS name resolution problem. ~~~ Thanks Regards, Sameer Shinde. RE: [squid-users] errors while opening sites
Dear Mariel, This is not happening about any particular site. This can happening with any site in next 3-5mins time the same site/web page works properly. Just a thought. Check that negative_ttl is set to 0 seconds (default when unset on older squid was 5 minutes which is suspiciously similar) and that negative_dns_ttl is at least 10 seconds (or unset for default). Also check that they are actually being generated by your own squid, your upstream ISP may be having trouble with an old transparent proxy. Amos ~~~ Thanks Regards, Sameer Shinde. Re: [squid-users] Errors in Cache log of Squid-2.6.STABLE13 Parent-Child on Cygwin
Resolved. I rechecked my firewall. Found that Squid.exe under Cygwin was allowed access. I further allowd access to Squid.client. Then reconfiguring the Squid gave me following error: 2007/07/24 09:17:46| commBind: Cannot bind socket FD 8 to 192.168.1.10:8080: (112) Address already in use This triggered me to believe that I should have two NICs in my machine for both the Squids. Installing another NIC and then binding both Squid instances to two different NICs solved the issue. Now there is no error. Works fine as desired. Sir, In a similar fashion can I use two different instances of Squid under Windows with two different NICs with different Service name from SquidNT Binaries? I wish to achieve this because under Cygwin I have to restart Squid everytime the computer boots. Many many thanks for your kind help, Sir. [squid-users] Errors during Log Analysis using Calamaris
I have squid-2.6.STABLE9-1 running on Fedora Core 6 stably and I am trying to use calamaris-2.59-1 for log analysis. While running calamaris, the following errors are generated in the log report: Invalid conversion in sprintf: %t at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Invalid conversion in sprintf: %a at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Invalid conversion in sprintf: %; at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Invalid conversion in sprintf: %v at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at /usr/bin/calamaris line 3306, line 134591. Line 134591 happened to be the last line in the log file. These errors are repeated a number of times and in addition the output report is full of large number (thousands) of blank lines and a few junk characters also. Surprisingly the log analysis is also carried out and a proper report is generated along with these errors. I have used the same version of calamaris on squid running on FC3 as well as CentOS 4.3 without any errors. What could be the reason behind these errors ? I have not selected any log format in squid.conf leaving the same at default setting none. Do I need to select any specific format ? Thanks, -- Manish Kathuria
Re: [squid-users] Errors when Starting Squid
Folks, When I start squid, i get the following errors: helperOpenServers: Starting 10 'sqred.plx' processes 2007/03/01 21:45:50| ipcCreate: CHILD: c:/sqred/sqred.plx: (8) Exec format error snip many duplicates I have noticed that it is due to this command in the .conf file url_rewrite_program c:/sqred/sqred.plx When this line is commented, the proxy works fine. Does anyone have an idea as to what the Exec Format error is? Thanks Alan This is squid attempting to start its child processes. As it does so Windows returns the Exec format error error and causes squid to abandon the startup procedure. The Windows Server Documentation indicates this error is given out by windows when a binary file cannot be executed. Usually on corrupt binaries. Check that the c:/sqred/sqred.plx file is actually an executable format in win32 acceptable format. The windows command line should be able to execute it or give you a better description of the problem. Amos
RE: [squid-users] Errors when Starting Squid
Hi Amos, I gave up on the windows port, I installed again on FC5 and then run again. Once I had setup permissions on the scripts, modified squid.conf to suit the script name etc... Squid started and is now running perfectly with a basic re-write script so all it does is put STDIN to STDOUT. Now I need to understand what coming in from STDIN and manipulate it :-) If I get some time I will try to work out why the windows port wont run the .plx file. If I open cmd line in windows, and type the script name, it runs perfectly, so I am not entirely sure why its not running when called by squid Thanks Alan -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 02 March 2007 14:54 To: WRIGHT Alan Cc: squid-users@squid-cache.org Subject: Re: [squid-users] Errors when Starting Squid Folks, When I start squid, i get the following errors: helperOpenServers: Starting 10 'sqred.plx' processes 2007/03/01 21:45:50| ipcCreate: CHILD: c:/sqred/sqred.plx: (8) Exec format error snip many duplicates I have noticed that it is due to this command in the .conf file url_rewrite_program c:/sqred/sqred.plx When this line is commented, the proxy works fine. RE: [squid-users] Errors when Starting Squid
Alan, A couple of possibilities here. First, when you open the command line do you just type the script name? If so and it works, are there any other sqred.plx files on the disk (somewhere in the path)? Is the folder sqred in the path? Have you tried changing / to \ in the squid.conf command? Sorry forgot to CC the list on my last reply. If you are not sure you are going to be using ldap then I would say remove ldap from your build and then be done with it. --enable-basic-auth-helpers=NCSA,SMB Agrawal, Devendra (Indust, PTL) wrote: Thanks for the response. [squid-users] Errors during make
Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum, so I would like to say hello. I am having troubles when I run make. It throws a bunch of errors that I don't understand. I was wondering if it outputs those errors to log somewhere and then I was wondering how do I find out what these errors mean. I am very new to Linux and Squid, this is my third attempt at making a server and it is the furthest I have gotten. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you for your time. Bob Shatford Asst. Re: [squid-users] Errors during make
Probablly you did not upgrade your libxml2. If you configure with ssl, you need the newest openssl. I have set up Squid on Linux, FreeBSD and Windows, all accelerator mode with SSL. I can help you in my chat server at http://breakevilaxis.org if you want do the same mode. I have scripts to create all SSL certificates and files. If you are not interest in accelerator mode with SSL, then I would not help you. I do not have time to learn other mode. Fulan Peng. RE: [squid-users] Errors of squid not being shown ?
Hello. I've checked the directory and it's fully readable for the user. I'm using http transp. proxy with a virtual host. Is there any way I can log what's the URL squid tries to find for the error and get the 403 response? Thanks again, Carlos. Microsoft does not think people can surive if they see the actual error messages and prefer working around the issue in the browser rather than making their web server return human understandable error messages. It is supposedly possible ot convince MSIE to show the error despite being configured to show human friendly error messages by making sure the error response is sufficiently large. More details available in an MS KB entry somewhere (don't remember the number). Regards Henrik
[squid-users] Errors compiling squid
Hello, compiling squid (version 2.5.STABLE3) configured with --enable-basic-auth-helpers=helpers I receive compiling errors of type FATAL: file.h not found with helper LDAP the files are: ldap.h and lber.h with helper PAM the file is: pam_appl.h with helper SASL the file is: sasl.h I suppose I need some libabry in order to compile squid with this options, is it correct? In this case, which libraries I need? Thnak you for your time, Daniele Ricci.

Re: [squid-users] Errors. is a subdomain of and FD
Thanks for your help. It looks like I need to sort the acl file and remove any entries which are in there multiple times. I guess that comes from catting a couple of acls from the internet into one file. I see the Connection reset by peer is normal, so I won't worry about that one any more. At 07:42 AM 19/11/2003 +0100, Henrik Nordstrom wrote: try squid -k parse. Problems detected while reading the config file on startup is only reported on the console, and only if you use the -N flag. Problem while reading the config file during reconfigure is reported in cache.log. 2003/11/18 21:13:11| sslReadServer: FD 30: read failure: (131) Connection reset by peer This can be found in the FAQ and in the squid-users arvhices. I don't see how a 2LD can be a subdomain of itself.. In Squid eyes it is.. but it is true that we could change this warning to handle the case of exact duplicates differently, but in any case it should be pretty evident what the problem with your acl definition is. Re: [squid-users] Errors. is a subdomain of and FD
Hmm. Well. We stopped and started the squid server instead of HUPping it and no errors. Go figure.
