The DNS server being used by your system for lookups is having major
problems.
You will need to do some serious debugging to find out why. Things to
look for are DNS server overload, traffic congestion, lack of recursive
queries, etc.

Dear Amos,

Thanks for the reply.
We are using the same DNS servers for our existing proxy server which is
ISA2000 is working properly without any problems.
We want to shift from MS-ISA2000 proxy server to Linux Squid proxy server, so
we are building up this new proxy server.

More over if I access the internet from the Ubuntu proxy server itself, we
don't get any such errors.

Can you / anyone let me know how can we resolve these issue.
Also for your information that, so far ubuntu server is just a member server in
our enviornment there is no DNS server configured in Ubuntu server.
May be this will help you for finding some outputs.

RE: [squid-users] errors while opening sites

2008-12-01 Thread Sameer Shinde

Remy,

I'm using /etc/resolv.conf file have two entries in it.

like

nameserver 10.0.0.1
nameserver 10.0.0.2

tried to check the time host which is somewhere in the range of 48-50, which
seems reasonably o.k.

I'm also using the default cache size, which I want to increase to some extend.
But I'm sure this is not a cache issue.

Its surely something related to DNS name resolution problem.

Just a thought.
Check that negative_ttl is set to 0 seconds (default when unset on older
squid was 5 minutes which is suspiciously similar) and that
negative_dns_ttl is at least 10 seconds (or unset for default).

Also check that they are actually being generated by your own squid, your
upstream ISP may be having trouble with an old transparent proxy.

didn't understand this...?

upstream ISP may be having trouble with an old transparent proxy.
Do u mean this is an old proxy, as I've updated all the packages for Ubuntu
from there repository site. 2.6 is the only latest version which I could get.
Although I know, in real it is not the latest version, as the latest stable
version of squid is 3.0 stable 10, to which I want to anyway update.
But I was waiting to resolve this problem 1st once everything works properly,
I wanted to upgrade it to 3.0
So far I'm searching for the documentation for, how to upgrade the squid 3.0 in
ubuntu as some parameters are changed in Ubuntu
I need to do the customized installation.
Anyone Correct me if I'm wrong.

 Dear Mariel,

This is not happening about any particular site. This can happening with
 any site
in next 3-5mins time the same site/web page works properly.

 Amos

Clear the cache, may be the source for your problem. I had this problem
whit another URL and I had resolved doing this.

We are using the same DNS servers for our existing proxy server which
is ISA2000 is working properly without any problems.
We want to shift from MS-ISA2000 proxy server to Linux Squid proxy
server, so we are building up this new proxy server.

More over if I access the internet from the Ubuntu proxy server itself,
we don't get any such errors.

Can you / anyone let me know how can we resolve these issue.
Also for your information that, so far ubuntu server is just a member
server in our enviornment there is no DNS server configured in Ubuntu
 server.
May be this will help you for finding some outputs.

I'm not able to bring the server in live mode due to this problem.

The DNS server being used by your system for lookups is having major
 problems.
You will need to do some serious debugging to find out why. Things to
look for are DNS server overload, traffic congestion, lack of
 recursive
 queries, etc.
