Meridian Music presents Brandon LaBelle Friday, April 5 8:00pm $10 ($5 for students, seniors, impoverished artists) ----> Event Description <----------------------------------------------- Brandon LaBelle - electronics Brandon LaBelle is a sound artist and writer from Los Angeles. His work with sound installation and performance aims to draw attention to the phenomenal dynamics of sound as it is found within spaces and objects, public events and interactions, language and the body. His work engages the specific conditions of each space and event, drawing upon architectural anomalies and using found objects and environmental characteristics in the work itself. LaBelle's interest in site specific work reflects a desire to consider the relationship between art and a broader social environment. His work has been featured at the 9th International Symposium of Electronic Arts in Liverpool and Manchester, the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, the Sampling Rage Festival in Berlin, the ICA London, Roulette Music in New York, and as part of the "Sound as Media" exhibition held at ICC in Tokyo, January 2000. His second CD, "Maps of Tenderness", was released in 1999 on the SELEKTION label from Germany; his recent "Text = CD" is a collection of language-based sound works. LaBelle is also the co-editor of "Site of Sound: of Architecture and The Ear," recently published by Errant Bodies, and is curator of the Beyond Music Series at Beyond Baroque Center, Los Angeles. <http://www.kaon.org/brandon_labelle/index.php> We do not accept reservations. Meridian Music: Composers in Performance presents concerts the first Friday of each month in the intimate setting of Meridian Gallery. The series has been underway since Fall 1998 and is curated by Philip Gelb. <http://www.meridiangallery.org/MGMusic.htm> Upcoming concerts: May 31 - June 2, 2002: Meridian Gallery in collaboration with the Pauline Oliveros Foundation will present a 3-day retrospective of the work of Pauline Oliveros in honor of her 70th birthday featuring the Deep Listening Band, Circle Trio, The Space Between, a very large orchestra of virtuoso new music players from around the world and many smaller ensemble pieces performing compositions of Pauline's from 1960 - 2002. The festival will take place at the Lorraine Hansberry Theater in San Francisco, one block from Meridian Gallery. Proposals for future concerts are always welcome.
