----/ The Squid List /-------------------------------------------------- Cheetah Conservation in Namibia
Thursday, July 13 7:30-9 pm Free ----/ Event Description /----------------------------------------------- Irene Donovan Marten will show images and describe her work with the Cheetah Conservation Fund. The cheetah can run 110 kilometers per hour, yet it can't run away from habitat loss, a reduced gene pool, and conflict with humans and their livestock. Namibia is home to the world's largest remaining population, with 90 percent of its cheetahs living on livestock farmlands. The survival of the Namibian cheetah lies in the hands of about 1,000 commercial farmers, who view the predators as pests and have legally killed 10,000 cheetahs over the past two decades. Dr. Laurie Marker has been collecting essential data on cheetah behavior and ecology and working with Namibia's farmers to change their attitudes towards cheetahs. Irene Donovan- Marten volunteered with Dr. Marker and the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia as part of an Earthwatch Expedition. San Francisco Naturalist Society general meeting. Open to the public. ----/ Venue Info /------------------------------------------------------ Randall Museum 199 Museum Way San Francisco (415) 554-9600 http://www.randallmuseum.org ----/ Additional Info /------------------------------------------------- [EMAIL PROTECTED] (415) 225-3830 http://www.sfns.org ----/ The Squid List Admin /--------------------------------------------- The Squid List, a tentacle of Laughing Squid http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/ subscribe, unsubscribe, change your email address or change your subscription options: http://lists.laughingsquid.org/mailman/listinfo/squidlist/ Frequently Asked Questions & Submission Guidelines Squid List FAQ: http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/faq.html The Squid List Online Calendar: http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/calendar/ The Squid List RSS Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/squidlist ----/ Laughing Squid /-------------------------------------------------- Laughing Squid http://laughingsquid.com art, culture and technology from San Francisco and beyond Laughing Squid Web Hosting http://laughingsquid.net friendly, dependable and secure web hosting services for artists, individuals, bloggers, non-profits and small organizations The Squid List is licensed under a Creative Commons License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.5/
