Dear SquirrelMail-Users list:
I've been using SM ever since version 1.2.4, and absolutely love it. It
is the most functional, supported, clean looking free non-proprietary
web mail that exists. Now if only it were coded in perl... : ).
Recently I've been having a big problem. A few "random" messages are not
showing. By this I mean that instead of the "message interface" loading,
there is just a plain white page. There are a few rules to this
behavior, however. First, if a message does this, it always will, unless
you are able to forward it to somehow, who can in turn send it to you as
an attachment. The interesting bit is that other people can open the
message, with a little modifications by the forward operation... Second,
it seems to happen on larger messages. I was convinced the limit was
10KB, but recently an 8KB message failed on me. Third, there is nothing
special about the message. Both plain text and HTML messages have
failed. I will send a user a message in HTML and plain text format, and
when the reply history will build up, it will at some point not show for
him. Last, sometimes when sending large messages, the message does not
show up in the "Sent" folder, or if it does, it is unable to be viewed,
with the same "blank screen" problem.
Potential hypotheses:
* Code bug?
* IMAP server bug?
* IMAP server time out value too low?
* VERY Unlikely: Some of my personal modifications.
Here's the specs of the machine:
RedHat 7.2
Default PHP installation (register_globals on)
Apache-1.3.22-6
SquirrelMail 1.2.8
Imap server: CourierIMAP
Plugins -- many, but not open in new window message viewer.
If you need any other information at all, please tell me. I've also
filed a bug report on SF.net, called "Problems sending long messages",
but it was not as comprehensive.
Thanks!
David R.
