Belarusian Telegraph Agency April 3, 2006 Belarus parliament: Hague Tribunal further existence pointless Today the Belarusian parliament adopted a resolution in view of the death of former Yugoslavia president Slobodan Milosevic. The resolution was voiced by the chairperson of the international affairs and CIS relations commission Vadim Popov. Slobodan Milosevic spent last five years of his life in detention of the International Criminal Tribunal for criminal prosecution of persons responsible for grave violations of international humanitarian laws in the former Yugoslavia since 1991 (ICTY). Slobodan Milosevic died of an acute myocardial infarction according to the official medical certification of the cause of death. The resolution reads, the international community has repeatedly reminded the ICTY of the fact that Slobodan Milosevic needed specialised cardiological treatment. The life and health of this man was in hands of the judges and medics of the Hague Tribunal. However, his appeal to go to the Russian Federation for treatment was denied. The denial cannot be qualified in any other way than "inhumane and cruel act, which led to a tragic finale", reads the resolution. The death of the former Yugoslavia president received a wide public recognition throughout the world and shook the situation in Serbia. The document stresses, Slobodan Milosevic is not the only victim of the Hague Tribunal. It is obvious the organisation cannot preserve lives of those it tries. The ICTY is obviously a politicized body with inherent biased approaches. The tribunal works for the benefit of those, who are responsible for the Balkans operation. The tribunal's purpose of existence is well-known: justifying NATO actions in the region. As the head of a sovereign state, Slobodan Milosevic was entitled to and obliged to defend the integrity of his country and defend its security. The Belarusian parliament believes, circumstances of Slobodan Milosevic's death need an objective international investigation. The parliament demands to make the ICTY judges, who denied Slobodan Milosevic's treatment appeal, answerable. In view of the death of the former Yugoslavia president, the National Assembly of Belarus believes "further activities of the ICTY are pointless and demands to hand over all the accused to judicial authorities of their states".
