Fire box on Ruby

2001-04-18 Thread Trent Dowler
Hello Everyone, I've noticed that at least one of our listers (Vance) has built a "false" firebox for their Ruby. It seams to really add to the appearance of the engine so I built one as well. I am quite dissatisfied with the outcome of mine though. I have rivet detail and painted it silver

servos for steam regulator

2001-04-18 Thread Trent Dowler

Mount the link as close as possible to the center (pivot point) on the servo, and connect the other end of the link as far out on the arm of the Johnson bar as necessary so that normal servo rotation limits (typically 45 degrees each side of center) match the required throw of the J bar.

Hi Trent, On my ruby I used a piece of 5/16" brass tubing over the Johnson bar, then the connecting rod passes thru the brass tube about 2" above the floor of the cab. By extending the length of the Johnson bar this makes it easier to control the amount of throw of the servo by using the

Advice on firebox stays

2001-04-18 Thread Shyvers, Steve
To the List, I would appreciate some advice about firebox stays in a coal-fired boiler. Model coal-fired boiler documentation that I have seen shows the use of firebox stays. I will assume that whether model or prototype the stays are there to keep the sides of the firebox from bulging because
