I get validation errors appearing
immediately (before I enter any data in the form). I can't believe thats
normal: I must be doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Here's the pertinent parts of my struts-config:

I thought the default port was always 8080. In any event, you might prove
Tomcat is running OK by entering http://localhost:8080/ (or whatever port
you are using). Then try the struts-example. If that doesn't work then I
would stop Tomcat, erase the tomcat /work/localhost/ directory then
Tomcat is Marking servlet action as unavailable when I try a test using
the struts-blank sample app with struts-config modified for a data-source.
I am using Tomcat 4.0.2, SDK 1.4.0, and Netbeans 3.3.1. I did recently
upgrade from Caldera OpenLinux Server 3.1 to 3.1.1 and upgraded from Java
1.3
I am running Ted's Artimus sample application and it runs fine until I
change the table names (they are defined as static fields in his Commands
classes). Via some diagnostic code I can see the old Command classes are
being executed (not my modified and re-compiled Command classes) when I
enter
created form
beans?
Thanks,

I used your suggestions in RE: getting validation errors on initial display
of a form and Ted's hint below and have had good success. I put out a post
about validation and it appears that there should be validation logic in the
java bean validate method (also, the Validator package, which

Is there something wrong with the built-in connection pooling offered by

I appreciate the author's attempt to shed some light on the world of
struts,
but I would definately have to say that I do not beleive he has succeeded.
I think trioal and error will teach me faster.

Please respond
I use Caldera OpenLinux Server 3.1, Tomcat 4.0.1, and Netbeans 3.3 with no
problems. I deploy Struts apps as Rob describes below.

receive it. I did buy Professessional JSP 2nd Edition published by Wrox
and available from www.bookpool.com (a great place to buy technical books).
