I don't know of anywhere that gender is used inside Sugar. I think it was being captured for some deployments for statistical reasons. But I am in favor of making it an opt-in feature for deployments. Age is used by some apps, e.g., the bot inside Speak tries to take the same age as the user. And

Hi Sugar folk, This request came from the Debian packages, and I think it's a good idea to remove this question from the Sugar startup as it doesn't serve any purpose for the user. Would it be agreeable for everyone to make the initial questions for sex and age a deployment-level opt-in thing?
