[Sugar-devel] New SoaS Snapshot Ready!

2009-10-24 Thread Sebastian Dziallas
Hi everybody,

I'm happy to announce the availability of a new SoaS snapshot! We're
only one month away from our release, so testing is very much
appreciated to find the latest blockers now.

Get your copy from here: http://download.sugarlabs.org/soas/snapshots/2/

This release incorporates the latest Sugar (0.86.3) packages and updates
the zyx-liveinstaller to a newer version (0.1.14).

Additionally, we were able to resume appliance creation! The .zip file
in the download directory is exactly what you'll want for that.

We could use help with the following known issues, too:

* Record doesn't work and seems to have issues with its blobs (#423859)
* CartoonBuilder doesn't start at all
* InfoSlicer (its parser) needs to be fixed for Wikipedia
* No sound is apparently working in TamTam

In case we are unable to fix these issues in time, those activities
won't be shipped in the final release. Please report any other bugs you
encounter at our bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/soas

Thanks,

Re: [Sugar-devel] Deducto and Color Deducto activities - creating your own game mechanism

2009-10-24 Thread Caroline Meeks
Hi,

This is cool thanks! Is there a way to lower the floor? Is there a version
of this game that a 6 year old could have easy success with that would help
ramp it up?

Suzanne, the 4th grade teacher at the GPA, has the students play a Guess my
rule game with shapes. For example, All right angles Only Triangles,
Two sides the same. I think this is a separate game but I thought I'd
mention it as its somewhat similar.

Do we have a place to put game ideas so programmers could pick them up if
they want a project?

Thanks,
Caroline

 On a separate note, this feature is open to development, and we will see

 Hi Mohit,

 if you want to know whether you are running inside Sugar or not, as
 opposed to Sugar being installed or not, I think it's better that you
 check fr the existence of one of these environment variables:

  One more issue which i figured out after a little more debugging is
 that the check for Sugar platform is also failing on Soas. I am using the
 following check on Soas:

  #Flag to check the operating system
  FLAG_XO = False

  try:
 import olpcgames, olpcgames.util
 if not olpcgames.ACTIVITY: raise RuntimeError
 FLAG_XO = True
  except (RuntimeError,ImportError):
  FLAG_XO = False

  The same check is working fine on XO1.

[Sugar-devel] Error in watchme client side

ImportError: libgnutls.so.13: cannot open shared object file: No such

Tested on soas-strawberry. The server part is not reporting any errors
in the logs.

What other information would be helpful to debug this?

I believe the problem occurs because of binary incompatibility between
Fedora 9 and Fedora 11. Watch Me is self-contained on Fedora 9 systems
like OLPC-8.2, but on other distributions it is not self-contained, and
may require the installation of additional dependencies. In the case of
Strawberry, it appears that you need to do

yum install gtk-vnc-python

because Watch Me's built-in version of gtk-vnc-python no longer functions
on Fedora 11.

I apologize for the inconvenience. I hope that Sugar's handling of binary
executables in activities will improve in future versions.
