Probably the same of ALT-Tab not working. I bet we're eating all the ALT
events for the start-new function in the Favorites view. Who would like
 to work on this?

Andres, this might be a regression introduced by your patch series.

I could not reproduce this on os240py or sugar-jhbuild with Memorize 34. Do
you have a more detailed report?

Also, this image doesn't include the last version of the patchset. Sorting on
removable devices doesn't work, for example. I would recommend any testing to
be done with the latest version.

[ ] Control panel - keyboard causes a restart, thats all it does,

Martin, maybe you could do this?

 [ ] Trouble handling non-sugarized activities (XaoS)

I wonder how much work would it take, in your opinion, to implement the
Freedesktop startup-notification protocol in Sugar? So we could stop
wrapping every non-native activities with things such as the sugarize
script, which serves no useful purpose but to implement the non-standard
 startup protocol expected by Sugar.

After the switch to Metacity, this would be another step towards proper
integration of regular Linux applications with Sugar.

I'll test both patches in F11-XO1 and report back.

As your eyes are already looking at this code, perhaps you may like to
help with some work. yesterday dsd and I discussed the possibility to
add back support for the microformat as a backend to the current
 activity updater.

The current aslo-specific RDF protocol makes it hard for deployments to
decentralize activity management to schoolservers. It's also very slow
becase it does one HTTP query for each installed activity. Daniel wrote
a list of desired requirements in another post not long ago.

The ASLO-side of microformat support looks really trivial: we just need
edit the html template for the page displaying activity collections.

But what about more trivial way, just create new php generated page
(like update-aslo.php) to generate page with what updater needs. In that
case such script will be stored out of AMO code base and won't contain
any AMO UI elements.

ASLO lets any registered user create custom collections and grant other
users editing rights to it. The only important feature which is missing
is locking specific versions of activities.

If it's a lot easier, we could restore support for the OLPC microformat
and ditch the RDF protocol altogether. It won't be missed because it
hasn't been used by any large deployment yet.

I'm not sure can import the old code verbatim, though. Besides being
very complex, it adds a dependency on bitfrost. A minimalistic backend
for the current updater would be a lot more maintainable, imho.

Activities sometimes launch and stay in a window (seen with paint and turtle
blocks) but not happening today
more frequently the window appears only for a fraction of a second at launch
(with scratch and abacus the window is visible for half a second or so)
and
Pippy always launches pygame in a window

once paint briefly said activity failed to start, just before it started ok

pulsing icon during activity start is delayed in appearing, eg takes 4 seconds
with turtle blocks, thats one of the slowest

I agree -- it is fantastic but hard to open to collaboration. A table
done in a wikipage, or even a google-apps spreadsheet can help a lot.

I'm adding this as an item to talk about in the postmortem meeting on

Tom has been doing a lot of QA for v3, it would be nice to figure out
a regular development-test-release cycle for v4, with systematic test

[Sugar-devel] Sugar on a Stick v3 how did we do? release review meeting

2010-05-28 Thread Mel Chua
How did the Mirabelle release cycle go? We're gearing up for making
v4, and want to know what went well and what could have been better -
everything from technical to deployment to documentation to process
sustainability to... well, really, everything!

Our next weekly meeting (Monday May 31, 1900 UTC in #sugar-meeting on
irc.freenode.net) will be about exactly that. We announced this date
several weeks back, but now that the release is out and the meeting
date near, it's time for a reminder.

If you can't make the meeting, no worries (especially since Monday is
a holiday in the US). This meeting is intended to get as much feedback
out at one time as possible; release planning for v4 is a separate
meeting (June 7th, again at 1900 UTC) that will take the feedback from
this release review into account. Anything sent in before that
meeting will be considered during the initial v4 planning session.

if you can't make the meeting (or even if you can) and have thoughts
or suggestions you'd like to share, please send them to
s...@lists.sugarlabs.org or add them directly to the agenda,
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_on_a_Stick_meetings#Agenda (which
includes links to the email feedback I've seen so far). Note that you
need to be a member of the soas list to post to it, so if you aren't
subscribed, feel free to email it just to me with a request to forward
to the list, and I'll do so. I'm only gathering feedback that appears
on the soas list, though, in order to preserve my sanity - so if you
reply to any of the other lists, we may not see it in time.

The three questions to answer:

1. What went well with Mirabelle?
2. What didn't?
3. How would you change things?

And then, of course, whatever else you'd like to write.
