In the page you have links to previous discussions and to the bigger plans. http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Features/Remove_Presence_Service Regards, Tomeu Thanks Tomeu for providing us with this great Feature! From a maintaining point of view and in order to make Sugar even more stable this is a great enhancement. As well the possibilities for future enhancements are enormous. As this Feature is very invasive (touches three modules) and moves as well a lot of code we have to be very careful when reviewing (mind that the Feature has gone through testing and landed by next Monday the 16th of August) and of course when testing. After landing the Feature we need a lot of testing. We should list all the possible test cases in the testing section of the Feature page then. From me a definite +1 for accepting this Feature, to me all the formal criteria for inclusion are fulfilled. The jpg file was missing, which made the initialization code raise an exception. The bug might very well be in jffs2, I've seen filesystem corruption before... Nevertheless, Sugar should be as tolerant as possible to data corruption because if it doesn't even start, users don't have a chance to recover their data. -- // Bernie Innocenti - http://codewiz.org/ \X/ Sugar Labs - http://sugarlabs.org/ ___ Sugar-devel mailing list Sugar-devel@lists.sugarlabs.org http://lists.sugarlabs.org/listinfo/sugar-devel

For what it's worth: The latest software versions coming out of Paraguay (based on Sugar 0.88) now support easy backup of the Journal to a USB pendrive or a school-server (see http://www.flickr.com/photos/christophd/4857147255/in/set-72157624456083615/). Possibly another task to add to the stack... git.sl.o doens't have a very friendly landing for new contributors page. Re: [Sugar-devel] backups
Interesting! I think Journal backup to the school server has been a feature since XS 0.4 and Release 8.2, see http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XS_Blueprints:Datastore_Simple_Backup_and_Restore , and that's what your picture shows. I assume you're referring to the recent Sugar work (I think http://lists.sugarlabs.org/archive/sugar-devel/2010-June/025094.html that has added backup to locally-attached volumes. I think other ways to back up individual Journal items are the copy_from_journal script and dragging items to an attached USB drive in the Journal. I find it hard to figure out what's significant or large in my sporadic Journal use. (BTW, USB key, memory stick, pendrive, thumb drive etc. are all confusing pet names for the actual name which is USB flash drive.) -- =S Page ___ Sugar-devel mailing list Sugar-devel@lists.sugarlabs.org http://lists.sugarlabs.org/listinfo/sugar-devel
