I also think that although this is an essential functionality, displaying

Some of the options that can be considered are:
1) We could choose from the settings, which folders to display. It would
provide an option of customizability.
2) We could just display one Browse option which would display all the
folders and files of the computer the person could choose from them (I
don't know how it would be implemented right now though).

Maybe the design team could weigh in and provide a better alternative.

I also have a few other ideas and questions regarding this which i will

As the instigator of both mounting of Documents in the Journal and the
current ticket, let me chime in with some clarification of my
intention.

(1) We added Documents to enable a simple portal between GNOME and
Sugar. While it is true that there are other useful directories in
GNOME, I think Documents is enough for our purposes.

(2) The activity directories would be made available while the
activity is open. Perhaps we designate
activity.get_bundle_path()/Journal as a location to mount if that path
exists?

regards.

[Sugar-devel] Introduction

2014-03-18 Thread Kamal Kaur
Hello there,

I'm Kamaljeet Kaur, a third year Computer Science student from Punjab,
India. I have interest in learning Python, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
Have also used them in my previous open-source project.

On the announcement of selected organisations in GSoC-14, I didn't
know much about the organisations whose names I already knew.

As from my childhood, I got attracted towards art and creative stuffs,
the name Sugar-labs made me look inside. After exploring, I came to
know about the Design team, writers team and all the creative people
out there. I felt like, Wow! This community is for me. I can do it.
Explored more and set up the development environment. And this is my
first love that didn't make me feel like searching for any other
organisation that interests me meaning that I like the first one only
:D

Well, now I want to continue my journey with this sweet community:
Sugar-labs. Want to apply for Activity Unit Tests. What I have got
about it from my own interpretation is that Activity Unit Tests mean
something like testing output for other programs w.r.t. their Inputs.
Can be like checking the accuracy and reliability. Correct me if I'm
wrong.

@Mentors Walter Bender and Daniel Narvaez

Please guide me to explore and get more about this project. Or you'll
suggest me to explore other projects too? Please guide me so that I
can get the maximum about the project before applying which will help
me to understand it better and ultimately complete it properly.

Thank you.

[Sugar-devel] User and password in SOAS F20

2014-03-18 Thread Gonzalo Odiard
Anybody knows what is the user and password used in the last SOAS?
I couldn't find it, and there are guys in Bolivia trying to use it.
They say previous version do not have a user/password,
there are any reason for adding that?

Thanks!

Thank you Laura :)

SN seems to be a perfect match to provide Social Help for Sugar students.
Unfortunately as Prasoon mentioned earlier, mentors are concerned about the
community developing SN and the interest around it. Discourse gets more
attention, therefore is might be more reasonable to use it in the long run.

Exactly. The Discourse community is quite large even now when the
project is in its infancy. It's only growing to grow.

Re: [Sugar-devel] Interest in Cordova/PhoneGap container for Sugar Project as a part of GSoC 14

2014-03-18 Thread Lionel Laské
Hi Gaurav (and others interested by the this GSoC project),

The start point for the project is to have a good understanding of: what is
Sugar, what is Sugar Web Framework and how the interface between Sugar for
Python and Sugar for JavaScript works. Note that you'll need both a good
knowledge of JavaScript but, because the project is to interface Cordova
with Sugar, you'll have to dig into some Python code too.

Here some reading that I could suggest to you:

- [1] Describe the architecture of Sugar for the web.

- [2] Is the description of the last year GSOC project that was precisely
on enhance the Sugar Web interface.

- [3] Is the blog of Suraj the last year GSOC student - and will
co-mentoring with me, he described in detail difficulties that you could
probably meet too.

- [4] Sugarizer is a port of Sugar in HTML5/JavaScript, it's the good
introduction to Sugar. Plus the Cordova PhoneGap will have to work inside
Sugarizer too.

- [5] Explain how to create a Sugar development environment. It's a
pre-requisite to work on the project.

- [6] Explain how to add a new Cordova platform, basically, it's the work
to do.

- [7] is this mailing list, you should explore archives regarding Sugar Web
Framework.

Regards.

 Hello,

I am Gaurav Parida, a student from IIIT Hyderabad, India. I was looking at
the ideas list and the Cordova container for sugar interested me.

I have had experience in Python, HTML, Javascript and consider myself
fluent in them. I have been using them as a part of major college
coursework and other projects of mine.I have had been developing web
 applications using web2py,GAE.
I have used phonegap once to convert a web app to an android app.
Here is my github profile https://github.com/gauravp94 that contain the
projects that I have successfully completed till now.

I have been an active contributor for the Sugarlabs community since a few
 months.
(I have done a few small bug fixes and also added a verbosity feature for
sugar-toolkit-gtk3 and also reported some bugs and added some points to the
 docs.)

It would be great, it someone could clarify some of my questions. I am not
 clear on --
 1. How should I approach this project, make web activities or look at the
Cordova code and ask the Cordova folks on how to make a new container.
 2. Any other useful pointers for the project, that might help?
 3. Any existing documentation/ code that has been done in regard to this
 project?

Till then, I will be looking at the code for web activities in sugar and
also make a sample web activity.
As soon as I get some instructions, I will get on to work on it and keep
this thread updated about my progress.

 Thanks,
 Gaurav
 (gp94 on IRC)

PS - I have another thread on the mailing lists regarding the Platipy
project, since I don't want things to get mixed up.So, I have created this
 thread.
