I see here only one issue - if screen is not so big we should enlarge
diameter or make color circulars smaller i.e. not so nice looking.
In case of lines layout we can add optional scrolling

yeah, I also thought about it
in case of
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Design_Team/0.88_Meeting#static_rows_with_separated_fill.2Fstroke
we even can use svg's content to highlight since we have only one "real"
color(stroke or fill) for particular widget

to be hones last two screens are just eben's mockups :)

* I see all possible colors at once(but we need to add optional
scrolling for not so wide screens)
* can change color parts separately
* to make random choice, I can just click on XO like in old scheme

Nice.

I much prefer the second one (the one with the rows of XOs). To me, it
is much more obvious what is going on and more fun too.

The general problem people encounter is the interaction between the
two changes: fill visually impacts stroke and vice versa. I think this
a good compromise solution.

btw I prefer buttons with cool animation(with zooming) instead of grid
but not sure if there is someone who is willing to implement such thing ;)

in that example I used new table widget which means that every XO icon
is a widget, so having full sized grid means dozen of widget thus too
expansive otherwise we should use another widgets(but current code is pretty
simple and compact).

If we go for this design (thought we decided to have buttons to change
inner/outer color? Or is this an alternate proposal?), can we make the
scroll box appear below the text and fill all remaining space so it
scales nicely on all sorts of screens?

@Aleksey: Thanks Aleksey for being so active on this one! Yeah, I guess
we would need a scrolled window as the number of options is bigger then
the available space.

@dirakx: Round sounds nice to me. How would one solve the scroll issue
though? Making the icons smaller when it gets closer to the border? Hmmm :)

[Sugar-devel] [DESIGN] New color selector

2010-01-28 Thread Simon Schampijer
Hi,

Walter and Aleksey did great work on implementing the new color selector.

1) http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/attachment/ticket/1592/color_selector.png
2) http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/attachment/ticket/1592/color_selector_full.png

In version 1, only the color that changes is displayed for the buttons,
the other color is white.

I made a quick go on it by my wife and she found it quite confusing to
navigate. She offered to use a grid where all the available colors would
be shown. I think Christian had a similar idea in last weeks design
meeting.

Simon
