Re: [Sugar-devel] Music Blocks Block Graphics Refactoring proposal for GSOC

2021-04-03 Thread Jaikishan Brijwani
Yes, It surely can help us focus our efforts on the core musical functions
of Music Blocks.

Coming to your next point of *Walter specifying the main design decisions
we'd like to address*, I look forward to this as well.

On a side note Devin, I'd like to hear your thoughts on which design
decisions in the current version of MB you think should be worked upon. I'd
like to incorporate this in the proposal as well.

Thanks & Regards,
Jaikishan

Re: [Sugar-devel] Music Blocks Block Graphics Refactoring proposal for GSOC

2021-04-03 Thread Jaikishan Brijwani
Thankyou for your suggestions. I'll add the aforementioned sketches to my
proposal.

Coming to your second question, design decisions with blockly are actually
quite easy to revisit. I say this because I have been perusing the
library's framework and some of blockly "paradigms" accentuated there are
worth considering.

Some of References worth considering:-
1)
https://developers.google.com/blockly/guides/create-custom-blocks/define-blocks#statement_connections

There is a nice tutorial by the blockly team that abates "annoying little
details" erratic behavior of the documentation, which makes the experience
quite cumbersome at times.
2)
https://developers.google.com/blockly/guides/create-custom-blocks/blockly-developer-tools#defining_a_block

Any other suggestions I should work upon? Please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,
Jaikishan

Re: [Sugar-devel] Music Blocks Block Graphics Refactoring proposal for GSOC

2021-04-02 Thread devin
I would imagine that using Blockly could help us focus our efforts on
the core musical functions of Music Blocks.

Walter, maybe you could specify the main design decisions you would like
to revisit, so research can be done ahead of deciding whether or not to
use Blockly?

I am looking forward to this.

Also, how difficult is it to revisit some of the design decisions in
Blocky? There are lots of little details that I find annoying.

Now, I am keen on participating in GSoC working with the amazing

I think leveraging Blockly is a fine idea. But maybe you can sketch
out some of the more common scenarios??? a note block with multiple
pitch blocks??? a sequence of note blocks... some nested clamps...

Also, how difficult is it to revisit some of the design decisions in
Blocky? There are lots of little details that I find annoying.
