Hmmmm…………..

 

Well, the same questions might be posed about the utility of many things. Paper 
maps, (magnetic) compasses and perhaps a whole range of instruments associated 
with navigation have been superseded by GPS. However it is surely “useful” to 
understand how we made them “redundant”.

 

However, is it correct to observe: “A sundial is a timing device entirely 
driven by solar power and has an automatic and precise reset after 
powerfailure....... ;-)”?

 

A sundial is an instrument for “measuring” the position of the sun in the sky 
and thereby inferring the civil “time of day”!

 

For determination of time we should, perhaps, consider the Lon Now Clock.
