Hi all,
I have two Eclipse Shades that I tried to use to view the transit of Venus on
the 6th June 2012 (Australia). I could see the sun but I couldn’t see Venus.
For some reason they didn’t work, was it because the filter are designed for
Eclipses and are not designed to view the transit of
I clearly saw venus with my eclipse shades, but I wore them over my eye
glasses.

Hi Roderick,
I was not able to see Venus with the eclipse shades either, but everyone around
me could. I'm sorry to say I don't think the eclipse shades were the problem,
but our visual acuity probably was.
Glad you had a filtered telescope. So did I. The view was great.

Maureen, I also tried to observe the TOV with simple glass solar filters
made by Thousand Oaks Optical, which I've used on several solar eclipse
trips. But, also for me, I could not really resolve the Venus disk. I
could just imagine it there where I knew it was, but not really resolve it.
