Hopefully with the problems that people had with 544, they shouldn't have
any problem with the new 547 problems. Just rollback the build to the last
known good build, 546 and you'll be good to go.

Now, if one didn't learn from the 544 problems and didn't backup their old
version before upgrading, there's not much that can be done...

On http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/ you can find all files.
(but you don't know which build is in which TGZ-file... :( )

The Windows snapshot updater always gets the file freenet-latest.jar.
We know that it has been compiled on January 25th and it contains the
build 547.
I suppose that people without a backup can extract the older build from
the TGZ-file made on the day before:
Extract the freenet.jar file from freenet-20030124.tgz in your
Freenet program directory. I bet that you'll have now build 546.
(if not then try freenet-20030123.tgz)

Greetings,
Stef

[freenet-support] More build 546

2003-01-25 Thread Marion Bates
I also have a working build 546 freenet.jar file, available at:

http://www.whoopis.com/~mbates/freenet/freenet.jar

and there is plenty of bandwidth, so please use this as a first resort (e.g., you were too dumb to realize that doing the *recommended daily update* to your node would cause it to curl up and die.)

Perhaps update.sh should create a backup, and maybe a "restore-prev.sh" script is in order. :)

[freenet-support] script tweaks

2003-01-25 Thread Marion Bates
If anyone finds this helpful -- I've altered my update.sh script to back up the old
jar file and seednodes first, and created a simple restore-prev.sh script.

update.sh:

#!/bin/bash
cp freenet.jar freenet.jar.BACKUP
cp seednodes.ref seednodes.ref.BACKUP
wget http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/freenet-latest.jar -O freenet.jar
wget http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/seednodes.ref -O seednodes.ref
touch -d 1/1/1970 seednodes.ref
# so we don't reseed unless necessary

restore-prev.sh (run after update, if the new build breaks your node):

#!/bin/bash
# restore previous jar file and seednodes
mv freenet.jar freenet.jar.NEW-BAD
mv freenet.jar.BACKUP freenet.jar
mv seednodes.ref seednodes.ref.NEW-BAD
mv seednodes.ref.BACKUP seednodes.ref

Like the readme says, run these like so:

sh name-of-script return

Obviously, this is easy to do manually. But if you put those cp lines in your
update.sh script, you don't have to think about it anymore.

Stable build 547 is now available.
Features: the new splitfile code from the unstable branch has been
merged. This is a complete rewrite by Gianni Johannssen, plus some
debugging by me and the new, vastly improved, user interface by Bombe.

I, and a number of others, have suddenly found our mainport on
localhost: not working. I saw people complaing on frost and then
people complaining on IRC and wondered what their deal was. Then I
upgraded to 547 and now I understand where they were coming from.

Well, would someone like to clue the rest of us in and paste some relevant
logFile information? Make sure to set logLevel=Minor before starting your
 node.
It's fixed anyway.

Re: [freenet-support] unsubscribing--web interface broken!

2003-01-25 Thread Nicholas Sturm
I don't remember ever getting one.

i haven't gotten password reminders in months, and the one in the last
one doesn't work. the mail interface requires my password, and has no
password recovery facility. (which is stupid, imho. the web interface
makes your password available to anyone with access to your email
account, so making it retrievable from email is no more of a security
 risk.)

[freenet-support] Freenet Mandatory Upgrade Warning

2003-01-25 Thread Matthew Toseland
The lastGoodBuild will be increased to 534, corresponding to Freenet
0.5.0.7, very soon, as part of the release of the long delayed 0.5.1.
This practically means that very old nodes won't be able to talk to the
mainstream network anymore, the idea being to clear out some of the old,
buggy nodes in the range 0.5.0 to 0.5.0.6.
