The only keys I can find with Freenet 0.7 when searching the registry
for "freenet" (other than the usual cached things like recently opened
files) are related to the Start Menu folder, the background service
and the .freenet-tmp file extension.  All are harmless and if you have
disabled the service in the control panel and deleted the Freenet
install and menu folders, Freenet is deactivated.

However, this does not remove the background service which is ugly.
Also if the user is paranoid about being found out to have been
running Freenet, the file extension and service keys are evidence of
an install.

At a minimum, since we added the service keys we should remove them on
uninstall.

Software that has no uninstall command leaves a bad taste in my mouth
usually, but I love Freenet and its an Alpha/Beta so I give you guys a
pass =)

Couldn't we have the node immediately check for the revocation key
when it finds a new update and wait for the revocation key check to
return before displaying the update button?  Admittedly there would be
a tiny chance that the key could be blown in between when the
revocation was checked for and when the user actually updates the node
but it would offer a much nicer user experience.  Maybe a compromise
and have it do 3 checks before showing the button and only one after
the user clicks the update button?

Is your computer very short on RAM? Freenet 0.7 shouldn't cause freezing
of your PC, though it's conceivable that it might push it over the edge
if it hasn't got enough RAM; how much RAM does your PC have? Hint:
anything less than 256MB on Windows XP is really dodgy...

Please tell us whether uninstalling Freenet solves the freezing problem,
we need to know.

[freenet-support] Hello and Question about win98se

Windows 98 has some problems... but these should be less on 0.7, and I
don't know what the problem is in this instance.

Are you trying to run Freenet 0.7 or Freenet 0.5? Did the installer
create a directory with some jar files and so on in it?

find: freenet service and desactive it.
In my opinion, that good, cause now i'll (maybe) upgrade it when an

Windows 98 has some problems... but these should be less on 0.7, and I
don't know what the problem is in this instance.

Are you trying to run Freenet 0.7 or Freenet 0.5? Did the installer
create a directory with some jar files and so on in it?

I'm sorry to hear that. You have to remove the service and then delete
the directory.

Is your computer very short on RAM? Freenet 0.7 shouldn't cause freezing
of your PC, though it's conceivable that it might push it over the edge
if it hasn't got enough RAM; how much RAM does your PC have? Hint:
anything less than 256MB on Windows XP is really dodgy...

Please tell us whether uninstalling Freenet solves the freezing problem,
we need to know.

Yes, but it doesn't work instantly. It has to run a final check to
determine whether the update really is genuine (the key hasn't been
blown). This involves fetching the revocation key 3 times which can take
a while.

Couldn't we have the node immediately check for the revocation key
when it finds a new update and wait for the revocation key check to
return before displaying the update button?  Admittedly there would be
a tiny chance that the key could be blown in between when the
revocation was checked for and when the user actually updates the node
but it would offer a much nicer user experience.  Maybe a compromise
and have it do 3 checks before showing the button and only one after
the user clicks the update button?

The only keys I can find with Freenet 0.7 when searching the registry
for freenet (other than the usual cached things like recently opened
files) are related to the Start Menu folder, the background service
and the .freenet-tmp file extension.  All are harmless and if you have
disabled the service in the control panel and deleted the Freenet
install and menu folders, Freenet is deactivated.

However, this does not remove the background service which is ugly.
Also if the user is paranoid about being found out to have been
running Freenet, the file extension and service keys are evidence of
an install.

At a minimum, since we added the service keys we should remove them on
uninstall.

Software that has no uninstall command leaves a bad taste in my mouth
usually, but I love Freenet and its an Alpha/Beta so I give you guys a
pass =)

Well, we need to be sure ... that means having it checked around the
time that it was deployed... we don't want to be *continually* fetching
the revocation key, so ...?

  How is auto-updating supposed to work?  I have auto-update
  notification enabled, updating disabled; should I be able to click

 Yes, but it doesn't work instantly. It has to run a final check to
 determine whether the update really is genuine (the key hasn't been
 blown). This involves fetching the revocation key 3 times which can take
 a while.

Indeed there is. The advanced darknet option, which should be
available through config. In freenet.ini it is
node.advancedDarknetEnabled i think.
