[freenet-support] install/uninstall problems

2010-01-08 Thread mike+21pronto.com
Hi there,
I installed your programme which seemed all right but it is
inaccessible - not on the desk top, not through Windows Start button and not
through Start/run. When I try to uninstall it does not appear in the uninstall
list and there seems to be no uninstall programme in programmes/freenet

How do I get rid of it so that I can get it back with the icons?

Yours

[freenet-support] Kaspersky reports..

2010-01-08 Thread Allan Preston
Kaspersky AV reports that freenetInstaller is a known worm, and
forcefully aborted the installation.

While I have shut down kaspersky, freenet will not install, because it
says its already installed, when its only partially installed.

I was wondering if you were aware of Kaspersky classifying you as a
worm, and if you know of any solution to not being able to install it
because it thinks its already installed. I cannot uninstall it, as I
cannot find an uninstaller on the system, probably because the
installation never completed.

[freenet-support] I Like the Idea but....

2010-01-08 Thread Tim Jones
I think you need to publish a more user friendly description of the
product and how it works. I am a fairly experienced PC/Windows user
for many years and I made a career of data administration using
technology. However, reading your website just makes my head spin much
as trying to decipher Linux and trying to understand what advantages I
gain from deploying freenet that is more and better than something
like PGP or using proxies.
Regardless of one's views of the relative merits of the software
platforms (Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc) the fact remains that we do
live in a MS Windows world and I think that describing your product
relative to the Windows experience would go a long way towards
enticing users to try your product.
Personally, I think this approach of keeping the description and
explanation cryptic and mystical has been the single block that Linux
has embedded in the public perception and has drastically limited its
adoption on a much larger scale. I see your product headed down that
same road, a good if not outstanding product that is hamstrung by its
own creators for lack of a focus on explaining the product to the
prospective end-user base in a way that base can understand.
I think developers lose sight of their audience when promoting their
work and forget that the target audience (end-user) is largely
ignorant of what goes on under the hood.
Hopefully, you will take this message as constructive and not a nag.
In either event it's my opinion and I hope you give it more than a
little consideration.
Best Regards,
Tim Jones

[freenet-support] Down/uploads excessive

2010-01-08 Thread nicpaul
Hi there support,

I installed Freenet the other day and tested a couple of links.

Within an hour my entire monthly quota down/upload from my service provider had
been used up. I have never approached, let alone reach my quota before!

As that was the last day of the service month - not a problem as I didn't have
access to full speed broadband for only one day.

However, the same thing has occurred again. I have therefore uninstalled
Freenet.

This brings up cost and usage issues, plus in countries like China surely they
only have to look for massive down/uploads to figure out who may have Freenet
installed? Or was my installation wrong?

Cheers

When I run the installer, the install seems to go smoothly until I hit the
Processing screen and I get this:

I've tried running the Java installer, and the offline installer - same problem

There's a configuration item for bandwidth limits, specified in KiB/s.
The post-install wizard should ask about it. Did you configure it
correctly? Did Freenet ignore the specified limit? (It has done that
in the past, but that was a long time ago and I haven't heard anything
of the sort recently.)

Re: [freenet-support] Freenet Installation issues

2010-01-08 Thread steve oliver
Is the user you are running the installer with, an administrative user?

 Hey there -

I'm trying to install Freenet for the first time on my Mac. I'm running OS
10.6.2 and having nothing but problems!

When I run the installer, the install seems to go smoothly until I hit the
Processing screen and I get this:

 /Applications/Freenet/bin/setup.sh: line 18: /Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh:
 Permission denied
 /Applications/Freenet/bin/setup.sh: line 19: /Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh:

 /Applications/Freenet/bin/setup.sh: line 20: /Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh:

 /Applications/Freenet/bin/setup.sh: line 22: /Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh:

 /Applications/Freenet/bin/setup.sh: line 23: /Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh:
 Permission denied
chmod: /Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh: No such file or directory
 Offline installation mode
 /Applications/Freenet/bin/install_updater.sh: line 3:
/Users/xxx/_install_toSource.sh: No such file or directory

I've tried running the Java installer, and the offline installer - same
 problem with both.

 Any ideas?

 Thanks!

Re: [freenet-support] broken link

2010-01-08 Thread steve oliver
This is a link to the main installer file
http://checksums.freenetproject.org/latest/freenet.jnlp

And this is a link to the full installer
http://freenet.googlecode.com/files/new_installer_offline_1239.jar

One of them should work for you.
