Which distro are you using? Ideally it should have a package for
freenet, and they should handle this bug.

Alternatively, are you running that program (install_updater?) as root?

Re: [freenet-support] PLEASE HELP FREENET ISSUES

2015-05-18 Thread Dave Larsen
by the way one guy asked for my logs so i sent him that plus i think it
was the same guy i sent all my settings and system info to, but i got a
msg saying that email was too big and was awaiting moderation i had no idea
there was a size limit to an email , how would freenet work without the
wrapper the thought of that confuses me but ok, please help, i really
would like to enjoy it instead of trying to another thing that confuses me
is how would anyone know what to do with the advanced settings, if theyre
something that shouldnt be messed with, maybe they shouldnt be there, or
as i suggested maybe you could have some kind of, as i said, beginner to
pro advanced configuration guide along with the program when its
downloaded so everyone can enjoy the innerinternet instead of trying
to, im done jabbering just need help i want it to work good

You seem to be running Freenet without the wrapper. This is not
recommended. Also, you have changed your advanced configuration settings
where you definitely shouldn't have, since you seem to have no idea what
you are doing. Here's my final advice:

 1. Uninstall Freenet.
 2. Download the latest Freenet installer.
 3. Run the installer and follow the instructions.
 4. Answer the questions in the first-time configuration wizard.
 5. Don't touch any of the other configuration options. Ever.

I sincerely hope you manage to succeed in running Freenet given this
extremely simple instructions. Either way, don't expect me to respond to
any of your further questions. At least not until you have bothered to
fix both your apparently malfunctioning keyboard and your attitude
towards those trying to help you.

My guess would be that you were trying to install Freenet through the
installer, and that it failed half-way yielding the mentioned error
message, instead of properly finishing the installation.

To further assist in tracking down the source of your problems, please
include the output of the following command, right after you receive the
 error message:

 ls -ld /usr/local/Freenet/bin /usr/local/Freenet/bin/*

The above command lists the file permission information on several files
related to the installation of Freenet.

2015-05-18 Thread Dennis New
Why does the subject of your message mention installing freenet *on
linux*? If you're running Window$ then you have to use the Window$
installation script -- probably ends in .bat or .exe? .sh files are
linux bash-script files.

Hi Bert,
I'd guess that Dave Larsen has only never heard of the netiquette, and
maybe he only should hear once,
that using exclusively capital letters in a mail is considered as
yelling on the face of the recipient !

After all, it's not written in big signs on every site…
More, it would be otherwise utterly stupid to speak like this asking help :
You skunks could you help me please to get out ou this Slurry pit ?
So, if he happens to read this, he may then be aware of it :-) .
