Re: [freenet-support] Unable to start Freenet

2015-11-04 Thread Richard Sosa
The freenet.pid file did not exist and nothing was open in my quick start tray,
but I did find any active process for the freenet tray when I opened task
manager. I closed it, and that did the trick. Thanks.

Hm, I've never seen that before. It's failing to subscribe to
information about an already-running instance of Freenet due to
permissions problems. Can you ensure that Freenet is not currently
running, then delete freenet.pid in the "wrapper" folder in the Freenet
installation directory, then try starting Freenet again?

The correct hash for the updated installer is the one you observed -
d47b1494564e98a5d772477fb8967828. The Windows installer was updated on
October 25th to include new translations. [0] The correct hash for the
initial release of the installer is 7053ba4bbf0ae9f833406ae43d1d1422.

There are GPG signatures, but they aren't yet visible alongside the
download links. Your question has prompted me to realize that the
signature for the updated installer wasn't published, so I'll need to
make changes to the Windows installer release scripts. For now I'll
attach it.

The initial release of the build 1470 installer and its signature can be
found here:

https://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/installer/FreenetInstaller-1470.exe
https://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/installer/FreenetInstaller-1470.exe.sig

To get the installer through Freenet see the "You can find the latest
Windows installer" part on the Friends > Add a Friend page.

Hi,
Normally, on os x, you could install this wherever you whish.
For many years, I even had it installed on an external disc.

By default though, it installs itself into your Home directory, but it's
invisible.

So, one needs for instance "Invisiblix" to see it.
It is ofcourse always possible to makesomewhere an alias that stays visible.
If in need of high security though, you can put this alias with other
sensible stuff in a sparse bundle

or sparse image, protected with a PW.

Re: [freenet-support] freenet doesn't work on osx

2015-11-04 Thread Stephen Oliver
Hi,

This is largely an issue with the way Java currently works on Mac OS X, but
it's easy to solve.

You'll need to install Apple's Java system package [1] as well as Oracle's
Java 8 package (which you probably already have). For the moment, some Java
applications don't quite work properly without both. Then you should have
no trouble installing Freenet wherever you like on your Mac, and it will
still run with the most current version of Oracle Java that you have
installed.

I'm working on a replacement for our Freenet installer that will avoid
issues like this in the future, however it hasn't been released yet. Sorry
for the trouble!

[freenet-support] Unable to start Freenet

2015-11-04 Thread Richard Sosa
As far as I know, there have been no changes to my pc in the past month, so
when I tried to open Freenet, I was surprised when it wouldn't open. The error
seems to refer to a problem with .NET Framework.  Currently, I have version
4.5.51209.  I tried to delete and reinstall Freenet, but that had no effect.
Another issue I've had is that downloads would get to 100% and then hang. It's
really frustrating when it takes several days to download a file and then I
can't save it.
I've attached the following files:- Screenshot of error- Details of error- PC
Configuration
Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.   Richard Sosa
