Don't expect good performance from a modem. Run a permanent node if you
can keep it online ~ 24x7. If you pay by the minute, or you can only
connect a few hours a day for any other reason, run transient.
When I tried the freenet configure option, It would..
There is some work going on with the windows installer at the moment...
I read that for modem connections it should be set up..
I have no idea what's going on here, forwarding to the development list
for input from people who might.
When I did get the configuration option working (at first ...
Try installing Frost ( http://jtcfrost.sf.net/ ). That will request
various small files in the background, as well as being useful and
resilient to network failure. This may help your node learn.
You might also consider switching to the unstable network...
Is this experience typical? From the archives it seems...
We hardly ever hear the success stories. This is quite typical for
software support. :) Having said that the network has some problems -
but it's not as bad as it has been.
The configure button works now after a re-install. I still can't set the node
to transient from within the configure panel though. I switch to the geek page,
check the box the says 'enable settings on normal page' or whatever, return to
the main tab, and the transient box is still greyed out.
If I run as a full node (non-transient), would it 'hurt' the network that I am
only connected a few hours a day on a slow connection?
Even though I have doannounce set to false, my log file is filled with request
rejected, node is transient' messages. Is this normal?
After over a week of trying, I still haven't gotten much of any real content. I
can get to DFI and a few of the front pages from there, but nothing further. I
do have Frost and have been running it. I can't help but think I have something
set wrong. Would posting the log file help?
