[freenet-support] Data store wiped - 11 Gb gone.

2004-10-09 Thread Wayne McDougall
On checking the environment I see my data store was wiped. Down from 11+ Gb when
I lasted check to less than 700 Mb.

I haven't looked at the logs because I don't know if anyone cares, and I
wouldn't know what to look for. But I'd be happy to do so if anyone has an
interest in this and wants to tell me what to look for.

My guess would be the data store was completely wiped to zero, which means it's
probably been refilling for about a day.

The even that corresponds with that approximate timeframe would be my LAN
losing its internet connection for 30 minutes, and being restored with a new
IP address.

I'm sad to lose my 11 Gb which I've been nursing along since July. Is this to
be expected? Or is it a problem, but there are bigger problems to worry about?

With thanks for any reply.

The data would still seem to be in the folders:

13.9 GB (14,976,513,449 bytes) as the size of the files.

14.0 GB (15,099,305,984 bytes) as the size on the disk.

I am running Windows XP SP 2.

It takes no time at all to load the datastore which seems wrong to me:

Freenet now restarts almost instantly - it didn't used to. :-)

Restarting does not help.

Rebooting does not help.

It looks like all the data is there but Freenet doesn't see it anymore.

Which seems sad to me.

A bug? Or an upper size limit on number of keys/size of data store?

[freenet-support] cannot access freenet from a remote machine

2004-10-09 Thread Sven Claeys
Hi
I have a problem with freenet when I want to try to access it with a
remote computer.
everything works fine, and I can access everything from the local
machine, but whatever I try, I can't seem to login in freenet with
another computer.

I already set the ip adres of the remote computer to allow access with
freenet, but when I try to access it with my webbrowser(=firefox) (on
the remote machine), it just doesn't connect.

Is there something I did wrong, or something I forgot?
Thanks for your time
Sven.

Re: [freenet-support] Site insertion woes

2004-10-09 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
forget windows 98.
it wasn't designed to run programs bigger than notepad.

in detail freenet and fiw use up so many network connections that win 98 can not
deliver that much.
it's a design flaw of win 98 and there doesn't exist a fix.
although there is a workaround which might work:
you can try to increase the upper limit of allowed concurrent connections

add the string key
MaxConnections = 250
under
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP

to your registry and reboot
if it doesn't help - increase to 512 then to 1024
if that doesn't help - get yerself an operating system (i'm using 98se too so i know
it's crap, linux is your only friend out there)

in attempting to insert a test site and ran got an enourmous number of
errors from FIW .08

looking at the freenet.log shows a problem allright. freenet.ini is all
defaults except for ip address, listenport, inputBandwidthLimit=1024 and
outputBandwidthLimit=1024

OS is win98se with nothing running that isn't required for freenet and FIW

freenet has been working good for site retrievals and small NiM inserts,
but I can't seem to insert a full freesite.
