[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7.5 build 1323

2011-01-07 Thread Matthew Toseland
Freenet 0.7.5 build 1323 is now available. This will be mandatory on Thursday.
It contains a set of low risk improvements and fixes to the new packet format
code:
- Fix a major regression in fairness between peers in packet sending which was
introduced with 1314. This may have caused some of the retransmits and timeouts.
- Several major fixes to the congestion control code: Ensure that the window
does not get too big (based on the number of packets we've seen in flight so
far) or too small (if it goes way below 1.0 and then gets a successful packet
it could jump to a very large number).

[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7.5 build 1322

2011-01-07 Thread Matthew Toseland
Freenet 0.7.5 build 1322 is now available. Please upgrade, it will be mandatory
on Thursday.
Changes include:
- Fix a stats bug which also affected load management: Don't count resends
towards the original message send.
- Workaround an extreme case of this bug which happened wen there was lots of
retransmission, causing us to refuse to send requests at all even when the
problem has gone away. The fix involves setting an upper limit for a bytes used
estimate.
- Try to find the root cause of raw IP addresses (without ports) in
physical.udp=. This has so far only been seen on one node.
- Implement per-peer trust level and get rid of the overall friends security
level. Some related config changes.
- More robust startup, related to broken downloads etc.
- Minor fixes and extra checks in message queue code.
- More reliable connection setup.
- Various minor improvements to FCP.
- Recover from a broken datastore config file (unfortunately the only recovery
available is wiping it out, we need a backup of the config file).
- Some memory leak fixes on seednodes.
- Don't announce during shutdown.
- Some improvements to code used by Freetalk and other plugins (related to
languages, cookies, configuration).

Well I guess you are not alone with this, it does the same to me.
Mac Snow Leopard.

Still this is not a general problem. This, and all other recent
troubles, go unnoticed on a home Linix setup. with UDP ports 30148 en
49455, and also 43327, forwarded on the router.

[freenet-support] Thread / Reply not downloaded

2011-01-07 Thread Andreas W
I am also bothered by the "Thread not downloaded" and "Reply not downloaded"
messages that aren't. It would make sense to not have this happen.

Perhaps each message could be made to include a copy of the text of all of
its thread ancestors, including their signatures. That way they could always
be reproduced and attributed fully, even if the original message is no
longer retrievable.

Apart from this, Freetalk seems to be a very worthy replacement for Frost.

[freenet-support] WoT Introduction Puzzles Broken?

2011-01-07 Thread Andreas W
I have waited for about a week now for introduction puzzles to be
downloaded, and cannot post on Freetalk.

I think this is a serious problem. Is it just me?

To the novice, this waiting makes no sense whatsoever and is frustrating,
because if you try to post to complain, no-one will hear you. I would expect
this to be a major hurdle to the rapid adoption of Freetalk. Perhaps this
could be fixed by having a few built-in puzzles that need not be waited for.
