 Hello!
 I have installed Freenet (0.7.5 version #1296 rbuild01296 Freenet-ext
 version #26 r23771) running on Vista 32 and it seemed to be working OK.
 I mean I have a node ID and I can navigate and download from FMS with no
 problem. However, when I try to send a message to a forum (Test as a
 matter of fact...), it does appear in the inserted list, but NOT on
 the forum itself afterwards (even after more than 24 h)...
 I also have the same problem with Frost. If I post to a board
 (Newbie-help would you believe..) my message stalls in the outbox until
 a message states that it was not possible to send it. Also, may be for
 the same reason, all of the boards indicated in the left window show 0
 messages. If i click on any of them, nothing happens, even I if I hit
 refresh... For information, when I installed Frost I checked the box
 running Freenet .05 instead of .07 because I am on Opennet and not
 Darknet..

I can't speak for Thaw or FMS but the problem with Frost is that you
made the Freenet 0.5 choice when installing Frost. Regardless of
whether you're using Opennet or not you are still running Freenet 0.7
and should select 0.7 during Frost's setup.

The 0.5 network *IS* still active but you are running 0.7 and will
never be able to connect to it unless you install 0.5

 Many many thanks if you can help me.
 Cordially
 Guillaume
 PS:
 by the way, same thing with Thaw... No messages sent nor received..

 planet that user 0.5 at this point (judging by the average number of
 connections on my node)? Sounds a little too small to believe...
 Is there a list of security vulnerabilities and other things
 available somewhere?

Actually, I believe that there's still quite a few people using 0.5. A
couple months ago I had a disk problem that resulted in my deleting all
of my routing table files and starting from scratch. After two months
of running 0.5 24/7 here's my node's view of the 0.5 network:

http://127.0.0.1:/servlet/nodestatus/version_data.txt

# Histogram of node versions in fred's Routing table

Fred,0.6,1.51,60276 6
Fred,0.6,1.51,60277 2

I can also say that the freenet 0.5 packages on my unofficial 0.5 mirror
are still being downloaded frequently. Builds 5107 and 5109 averaging
around 50 to 60 downloads per month.

I believe the 0.5 network to actually be growing, not shrinking. It's
slow growth to be sure but it's growth nonetheless.

I appreciate the idea that a secure profile is provided for freenet
browsing but I don't get why various menu options have been disabled.

Thus my question remains:

Why have they been disabled and how can I turn the FULL toolbar back on?

Even if I don't plan to mess with any settings, I at least would like to
be able to see them without having to decipher about:config and prefs.js

I've also noticed a lack of, among other things, the tools menu on the

 Also, when Firefox (ver 3.02) comes up, there is no menu item
 'Tools', so I can't disable the cache or history. Can I change this
 somewhere?

I've also noticed a lack of, among other things, the tools menu on the
0.7 firefox profile. Why has that been disabled and how can I turn the
FULL toolbar back on?

[freenet-support] freenet not starting

2007-07-29 Thread Edward Langenback
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Greetings,

when trying to start freenet I'm getting this error:

System error 1069 has occurred.

The service did not start due to a logon failure.

This didn't start happening until I had a power failure the other day. do I
need to re-install or is there a less drastic fix?

here's how I did it once upon a time:

You need Java version 1.5 or 1.6
type "java -version" in a console and watch the output

1) Look on this page in your web browser:
http://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/

The current build will have a name formatted like this:
freenet-r#-snapshot.jar The higher numbers are the most recent builds

You'll also need this file:

http://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/freenet-ext.jar

2) put 'em both in whatever directory you want freenet to run from.

3) rename "freenet-r#-snapshot.jar" to "freenet.jar"

4) use this command line (I put it in a batch file)

java -cp freenet.jar;freenet-ext.jar;%CLASSPATH%;. freenet.node.Node

Running this under win98se works but there will be no wrapper and it won't
auto update so you'll have to do that manually. Everything else works
normally. To get frost, Jsite, Fuqid or other things going follow their
install directions.

In my case I found it easier all the way around to get the pyfreenet package
and use the refbot in bot2bot only mode.

[freenet-support] is this for real?

2007-03-09 Thread Edward Langenback
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Greetings,

I've been letting freenet (0.7) run 24/7 for the last couple of weeks.
Today I happened to check the statistics page and this just didn't look
right:

* bwlimitDelayTime: 937ms
* nodeAveragePingTime: 667ms
* networkSizeEstimateSession: 8020 nodes
* avrConnPeersPerNode: 8.614261 peers
* nodeUptime: 20h10m
* routingMissDistance: 0.1247
* backedOffPercent: 69.4%
* pInstantReject: 12.7%
* unclaimedFIFOSize: 1241

I'm specifically talking about the number of nodes it's reporting. Just two
days ago that number was somewhere around 550 or so. I have a real problem
believing this 8020 number.

Running on win xp, java 1.5.0_11-b03

Freenet 0.7 Build #1019 r12039M

Perhaps he could carry a few refs on floppy / usb-flash drive / cd. As long
as they are peers that are willing to not delete his ref for not being
connected, he should be able to reconnect from inside China.

I tried to get the update, but at first all the .jar files at

[freenet-support] running 0.7 in win98se

2006-07-07 Thread Edward Langenback
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I tried the webinstaller and it complained that I didn't have java, yet I
have Sun Java 1.4.2_08 installed and on the path (java -version works from
any dos prompt)

as the download page advises, I tried the linux instructions and ran

javaws http://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/installer/freenet.jnlp

it started to install, then stopped when I didn't want it to download java
(since I've already got it)

Next was to download:

http://downloads.freenetproject.org/alpha/installer/selfextractpack.jar

and execute it:

java -jar selfextractpack.jar

That got the install done, at the end it ran into an error when it tried to
install as a service (something 98SE doesn't care for).

I saw the start, run and stop *.cmd files, they did nothing untill I renamed
them to *.bat, and then did nothing but scroll errors too fast to read and
exit.

I got the same results from running java -jar freenet-cvs-snapshot.jar

anyone have advice for trying to run 0.7 in win98se? I'd try it on my
debian box, but it's WAY to underpowered for freenet right now. (just
manages to run KDE desktop and email)

[freenet-support] freenet gateway pages

2004-05-15 Thread Edward Langenback
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Are there any currently working Freenet gateways anywhere? I'm
experimenting some and would like to be able to attempt retrieving my test
inserts by way of a web gateway other than my own node.

I've looked over all the links that i've been able to find for such
gateways and have not yet found a single one on the stable network that
works.

Freenet gateways list  stats
https://www.mixmaster.it/freenet/ none of the listed gateways respond at
all.

http://freenetgw.bishopston.net/ requires a login but lists other gateways...

fly.cnuce.cnr.it
leafgroup.net
firenze.linux.it
tattooine.homelinux.net
https://freenet.mixmaster.it:4433/servlet/nodeinfo/

..these are all not responding

On another note: I've tried running the unstable version in a separate
install and FIW, Frost, and FQUID don't seem to work with it.

any suggestions?

my own autoexec.bat has a line in it to automatically do that on every boot...
