With 100 connections open, it ought not to RNF _all_ the time... but if
you haven't had the node up for at least 24 hours, it won't perform
well. If you click Advanced mode on the web interface, it will give more
information about errors, and you can access Node Status; then click on
Routing Table, and send me the top 15 lines.

[freenet-support] (Newbie) Very little success retrieving data (5091)

2004-08-14 Thread Todd Pytel
Hi all,

This is the first time I've checked out Freenet, so I'm not sure if I
have genuine problems or this is "just the way it is."

Basically, the problem is that I can't browse anything. Well, mostly.
After the node was running for about an hour, I was able to access the
Freedom Engine (though none of the links worked). FIND came up a few
hours later. And Content of Evil is available now, about 18 hours after
the node went live. But just about every link I follow from any of those
comes up with an error. The errors are different and apparently random -
I've gotten "Network is busy," "Data not found," "Couldn't retrieve
key," and others. It appears that attempting to access a key makes it
marginally more likely to succeed in the future. Is there something I
should be doing to make things work better? I made the Firefox config
changes recommended in the README. Traffic monitoring shows that data is
indeed being moved onto my node (several gigabytes so far), and there
are roughly 100 open connections showing at any given time. This is for
build 5091 on Sun JVM 1.4.2, Debian Linux.

If there's more helpful info I can provide, let me know - I don't really
know what's relevant and what isn't just yet.
