Yes, probably something that we will need in the long run. Feel free to

During an update/upgrade cycle I may have accidentally answered yes to a
question about changing the default configuration files and can no longer
connect to any PC via usb. Attempts to do so get the following:
~$ sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.248
SIOCSIFADDR: No such

Yep, I see this message as well every now and then and also when I try
to restart x (and it fails), that's still visible on the screen.
Ok, it's from the /etc/rcS.d/S01exquisite. Both S01exquisite and S01psplash
search for splash=false resp.
~$ sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.248
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
usb0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
check /etc/network/interfaces if the usb0 stanza is gone or, even better,
look up the steps to set up usb
Ok, it's from the /etc/rcS.d/S01exquisite. Both S01exquisite and
S01psplash
search for splash=false resp. psplash=false in /proc/cmdline and as none
which one is responsible for the ugly boots?

Executing pactl suspend-sink 1 prior to suspend, and pactl

Could you please clarify how the fix is performed?
yeah -- I didn't have time to dance around trying to get deeper
understanding of the problem -- thus I just removed them both (since
navit depends on speech-dispatcher) -- I guess I could simply stop and
disable speech dispatcher from being run with the same effect
