4.4.2 quick feedback, was: Re: QT Extended version 4.4.2 release is out!

2008-10-31 Thread Petr Vanek
OK,

here is a quick feedback, will do more tests and investigation later:

- package for download contains kernel and root fs - super, as this
prevents confusion what kernel to use
- no echo on calls (great!!!)
- 100% working headset/handset switching (great!!)
- no more first menu item 1/2 hiding issue
- usb networking out of box with nameservers in resolf.conf
- timezone setup works

Some issues still present:

- headset sound very quiet
- incoming call gets registered as missed
- no ring sound on incoming calls (but works during call)
- 4.4.1 feed not present

Great work Lorn!

Thank you,

Petr

plug it back it for it to recognize the power supply. Only then do I get

2008-10-31 Thread Thomas Bertani
2008/10/31 Quasar [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Excellent feedback...I'll just add a couple of things to the list of issues:

 - There are some issues with the suspend/resume. I tried calling my phone
after it suspended and it didn't wake up.

This is a bug that doesn't permitt to use the neo as a phone

 - It's a minor issue but when the phone starts up, the battery indicator
shows it's charging (it wasn't), this stopped once I connected the phone to
 the charger then removed it.

OMG, again this bug, this isn't minor!! Because if I'm not at home and
I haven't the charger with me the phone uses the charging profile...

sorry for my bad english...

I think that probably it should be unpacked in /opt/Trolletch/Qtopia
 judging
from the directory structure in that file but haven't tried yet.
I was asking for someone more prepared on this topic, because as long as I
heard noone uses this way to upload their qtextended image, even if it
 could
 be very useful.

Definitely part of /opt/Trolltech/Qtopia. I think I know of somebody who
might have tried the binary update for 4.4.1, but I'd rather try it myself
and post results here tomorrow.

I haven't seen the charging issue, but I also see the suspend/resume issues
--- I just installed 4.4.2 this afternoon, and I've let the phone sit long
enough to suspend 3 times now. Twice it woke up when I called it, and once
it didn't. Not a great average.

It hasn't woken up for SMS messages at all - and since I used google
calendar with sms notification as my mobile calendaring solution - that's a
pretty big issue.

I'm going to continue testing over the weekend and see what else I see, but
so far it seems like a step backwards compared to 4.4.1 :-(

Re: 4.4.2 quick feedback, was: Re: QT Extended version 4.4.2 release is out!

2008-10-31 Thread Johny Tenfinger
How are non-developers supposed to know that?

Because now FreeRunner is not for non-developers. And people with only
little skill of developing (like me) IMHO should read wiki and
maillist BEFORE they buy FR (and should know about that basics like
suspend is a kernel issue and it may cause problems). For me it's
normal, not only here, with our FreeRunners, but also in other things
(but the most of people doesn't think in that way... :( )

And, unfortunately, it makes the FR with QT Extended totally useless as a
 phone

You can change kernel.

I am saying the Qtextended 4.4.2 binaries (/opt/Trolltech/Qtopia/...) can be
moved to the rootfs that the 4.4.1 image was made out of and probably work
fine.
In fact, there is the qtextended-update tarball which you can do exactly that
