OM2008.X testing - Turning off suspend

2008-12-01 Thread Paul
Has anyone tried testing the directions here?
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Improving_user_experience#Weekly_update_11.2F23_.7E_11.2F29.2C_Nov

I've noticed that the settings app doesn't work. Because of this I
cannot turn off the suspend, which means working on the neo is
extremely frustrating. Any ideas?

I can send you some tomato juice, but the bug still exists.

I am trying to pin down the details. Perhaps some package got updated
somewhere?

I also hear that there are different hardware versions which require
different gsmhandset.state files. Any more info?

Thanks.

Thank you, my preliminary tests are turning up good so far, I need to
call a couple of other people on other networks to finalize the
 testing.

Check your email for me as I will be contacting you about your beers

This relates to the a7 hardware revision which AFAIK hasn't shipped yet. IIRC
it has modifications around the handset mic. This reduces or removes the buzz
problem, but needs more gain to get the mic volume to an acceptable level.

openocd with u-boot

2008-12-01 Thread Shakthi Kannan
Hi,

I would like to know the recommended way for stepping-through u-boot
with openocd with the debug board on the FreeRunner.

I am able to connect with the debug board, start openocd, telnet to
localhost:, and issue openocd commands.

But, is this documentation old and not applicable to FreeRunner?
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Bootloader#Bootloader_development

I am able to execute the sequence, but, u-boot.bin image from both:

1. u-boot openmoko repository (git checkout origin/stable), and

2. With QT2410 image,
(Need to add #define CONFIG_MMC_S3C 1 in include/configs/qt2410.h to
complete compilation).

doesn't display any console output in /dev/ttyUSB2 on minicom.

Appreciate any suggestions in this regard,

Thanks!

Hi,

Because of my job I spend a lot of time abroad. Now I'm at Bogotá (Colombia).
Although I could find or track the FR, I think it would be impossible to see it

went to the suburbs to the steal tecnology market (I don't recommend it)
trying to find it, with no luck. I think I lost any hopes to see it again.

best regards.

Why don't you post the serial no. of the phone and where that happened? It's
likely that eventually the phone is going to be sold and the new owner is
going to come looking for info here.

It might also be a good idea to set up a page in the wiki, listing all the
stolen phones. Anoyone buying a used Neo could then check the serial number
against that page to make sure it's being sold by the real owner.

Oh, and sorry for your loss.

If you know the IMEI, report it to the local cops/police station. They
have tieups with GSM service providers who can triangulate the phone.

And the proactive way:

The dealers who sell Openmoko can provide insurance (2% of the price
extra) against theft, and you can use this to buy a new FR. The latter
works especially if you are in big cities with lots of
thieves/pickpockets/what not

why is my freerunner magnetic?

2008-12-01 Thread Robin Paulson
this probably seems like an odd question, but why does metallic stuff
stick to the back of my freerunner? i noticed yesterday, that it had
picked up a usb connector that was lying next to it. it wasn't near
the speaker, so i know it's not the magnet in that.

the area in question is directly behind the battery connectors (i.e.
away from the battery), pretty much behind the bottom-left corner of
the screen, and is about 30mm x 30mm. it's more noticeable with the
back taken off

i had a look at the schematics, and couldn't see anything that's
likely to be magnetic, so i'm guessing something has become magnetic
at some point since manufacture.

the battery has been out for nearly 24 hours now, so it's something
semi-permanent, not electromagnetic

any ideas?

cheers

I was thinking along similar lines, utilizing my own server (which lives at
a static IP) - but Adeona looks like a good starting point for a more
widely useful solution. Their software needs additions to support GPS.
IMHO that would benefit laptops as well - particularly if it could
automatically look for bluetooth GPS and try to query position. (you never
know - for that matter, log every bluetooth device it can see - some of
which will be thieves cellphones) Another beneficial addition to both our
purpose and laptops would be audio-recorder option. For Mac and Linux
their software supports pulling images from a built-in webcam but no
mention of audio. I'm thinking in terms of turning on the mic and feeding
it over GPRS as a speex-encoded stream, accompanied by packets of data
containing GPS/CellTower/Wifi data, obviously on-demand rather than
always...

Debian freezes

2008-12-01 Thread Jelle De Loecker
Hello everyone,

From time to time, when I'm downloading certain files through apt-get,
svn or cvs, or when I'm trying to compile something directly on my
freerunner, it would just lock up. Freeze completely.

I have to take out the batteries and restart the phone again.

Unfortunately, when compiling the shr applications, it always starts
from the beginning. So I can't resume a compile after one of these
freezes.

I haven't enabled the freerunner to go auto-standby.

Greetings,
Jelle De Loecker
