Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have 2008.8. But plan to install SHR soon. I am having trouble connecting via ssh in Ubuntu 9.04. Not sure what the problems is. Bill, If this is totally new to you first update the GSM firmware http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/GSM/Flashing#uSD-card_Image_.28GTA02_only.29 Then Update Qi http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Qi#Installation then you just need to flash a rootfs and a kernel image from http://build.shr-project.org/shr-unstable/images/om-gta02/ The links you've provided below should show you how to flash the rootfs/kernel. Re: Manually change settings.
2009? isn't it fso based? auto suspend should be triggered by a rule in /etc/freesmartphone/oevents/rules.yaml i guess. you would then need to disable that rule and either try mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.oeventsd /org/freesmartphone/Events org.freesmartphone.Events.ReloadRules or restart fso. there's a method to remove a rule, but it requires the rule's name -- and there's apparently no method to list all rules and in rules.yaml there's no names. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support
Manually change settings.
My Settings app will not open. Is there a way to manually change settings through a ssh session or something. Specifically, I need to turn off the auto suspend feature to maintain a ssh session. Re: Setting app nor opkg update seem to be working
I think I will try out SHR. It looks like http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/SHR will help me with SHR specific stuff but I first need to learn how to flash, which http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Flashing_the_Neo_FreeRunner should be a good guide for that. Should I flash everything ... bootloader, kernel, and shr image or can I just flash the shr image over the top? (I probably sound ignorant and that's because I am ... I am less than 24 hrs into openmoko land.) Any advice? I will start a new thread if I start having troubles with the flash and google doesn't answer my questions. Is this the right list for this type of discussion? There a lot of nice features that I hope will be introduced to SHR, e.g. contact names in text messages, etc. However, I am very happy that SHR is stable and usable. Does anyone know what it'll take to be able to send receive attachments? Re: Setting app nor opkg update seem to be working
I recommend using SHR's unstable image, the July 3rd image, as an everyday phone. They just came out with a new build today which I have not yet tested. om2009, though pretty reliable, is lacking in terms of other software you can install to make a nice smart phone. On my phone I have GPS working (Initial TangoGPS may take 15 mins to locate position), GPRS is reliable (not quite stable). I can send and receive text messages and phone calls reliably. It is the most stable distro and usable distro out there that I've tested. Only tweak that I had to do is to low Control.4's value to below 100 in /usr/share/openmoko/scenarios/gsmhandset.state to avoid echos on the other end for calls. http://build.shr-project.org/shr-unstable/images/om-gta02/ On Thu, Jul 9, 2009 at 10:26 AM, Bill Purcell wrote: > Yeah, I have 2008.8. > > I was using the openDNS nameservers last night and thought I pinged > google just fine. And some additional will appear ;) If you are going to install OM2009t5, keep in mind that most likely you will have to modify/replace *state files to be able to use FR as a phone. Re: Setting app nor opkg update seem to be working
Yeah, I have 2008.8. I was using the openDNS nameservers last night and thought I pinged google just fine. It was late and can't remember now. I am trying to connect to the FR on my work computer now and it's not going so well. I can't open the settings app like I mentioned in my initial post, so I have to keep tapping the screen every few seconds, which I am not good about doing, so the phone keeps suspending. This wouldn't be that big of a deal except if it goes into suspend mode a few times, it will eventually never wake up and I have to take the battery out to shut it off and then I can get back to work. If I upgraded to 2009 would all my problems go away? Is anyone using this as an everyday phone? I see a lot of jargon about how the openmoko is not ready for everyday use, but I think I'm going to give it a whirl (once I can get things functioning). It sounds like a network issue. I would try pinging google.com.
