well, there's probably a lot of people finding _your_ message both unneccessary and offensive! - you hijackd a thread completely unrelated to vent your individual frustration insdtead of respecting the request of the op - you tried to force your personal opinion about the state of om on everybody, completely ignoring that the people still active an the list very likely think otherwise - you claim to be the one who after a long time of joint self-deception finally speaks the truth -- which is both materially and factually nonsense. the discussion about om being a failure or not is recurrent and monitoring silently the list for month now after a rather lively interest before, i think i safely can say, that those people still active completely disagree with you (certainly the op, which you regarded with such contempt, does) if whath you posted is your honest opnion, you are free to move on and leave. if you think you have new points to make about om's state and future, you are free to open your own thread -- but, please, check the archives before ... Hi Rijul, please check that your downloaded image is not corrupted. You can download and compare it with our copy which we have used successfully an uncounted number of times: http://download.goldelico.com/gta02/Moko11/ You must also flash the image on the flat memory card (e.g. /dev/sdb) and not into a partition (and not /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdb2). Hope this helps, Nikolaus Am 19.03.2011 um 07:53 schrieb halbtaxabo...@yahoo.com: You know, folks, I think it's time to admit that the Openmoko project was a failure, and move on. It was a great idea and a lot of us supported it with our money as well as our time, but the device as eventually sold was poorly designed and badly implemented. Even the people who bought it after several rounds of hardware bug-fixes got a clunky device with pathetic battery-life. Since the hardware is crap, it's not surprising that software developers didn't exactly flock to it. Trying to make it usable is flogging a dead horse. Re: connection between Freerunner and openSUSE 11.2
tbh, i never really was happy mit nm or any intelligent automatism trying to manage the connection to the fr. nm usually is overcharged with the concept of _multiple_ network interfaces being up and connected at the sam time and produces spretty much a mess. your best bet is to handle it by yourself, using /etc/network/interfaces (be aware, taht suse since its earliest times refuse to use sensible and widely used mechanisms, but forces you to use that horrible yast!) my /etc/network/interfaces looks like below # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback allow-hotplug usb0 iface usb0 inet static address 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 post-up iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -j MASQUERADE -s 192.168.0.0/24 post-up echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward post-up iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT ## The primary network interface ## network-manager stupidly seems to use the last defined connection allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp relevant is the usb0 stanza (i modified the udev rule to retain the device usb0, per default it should be ethX, probably eth1 on your box). in theory, nm should ignore any device explicitely configured in the file above, but in praxi it usually fails, check /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf for the entry [ifupdown] managed=false to (hopefully) force nm to ignore those devices in /etc/network/interfaces. this works on a debian/unstable. if suse does not allow this kind of configuration (yast creates its own little world), try yast and configure there manually the necessary information. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

there are two possible explanations: - you have to push in the headphone plug harder to actually connect -- hearing only in one earphone usually is a sign for that - you needt to plug in _after_ establishing the call. not sure, how a) shr handles that and b) if fso did fix it -- but with debian i frequently experienced that the state file was switched only after establishing a communication, ie when calling or accepting with the headphones already plugged in, the state would nevertheless siwtch to handset, i had to unplug and replug the headphones to make the state switch correctly. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

Hehe, do you want to imply that the FR will gain more horsepower over not necessarily, it's an equation with two terms. since the fr is not likely to change in that respect, navit in turn may -- and to be honest, i certainly hope it will, so far it is unusable as navigation app on the fr and its only advance over tangogps is the use of a comparatively small binary map instead of a huge bunch of tiles. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

Re: Sad Story
1. Recamping issue - http://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/1024. does the relased firmware not apply? openmoko10 (or whatever that firmware was called) hasn't fixed the issue for me. seems, i confused the issues the fw should fix, not #1024 but #666. And no, a software workaround which still drains the battery in less than a day IMO is not enough. can't confirm that. the battery lasts as long as before -- about 48h, maybe more (i never let it run down more than about 35% which is reached after almost two days). 3. A stable, FSO-based distribution ... there was just recently a mail from om lining out the development in this respect. I must have missed it. To find it, what should I be googling for ? well, mails wolfgang spraul of the last week, i think. should be in the thread about the disbanded optimization team. On a related note, the latest FSO in debian (apt-get update; apt-get upgrade about an hour ago) never asks me for a PIN. Who should I report this to, which logs should I attach? seems to be an issue for the smartphone lists, rather. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

Re: Sad Story
1. Recamping issue - http://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/1024. I know it's hard and I presume people from TI aren't being helpful since solving this issue isn't going to be very profitable for them. Still, please, someone solve this! does the relased firmware not apply? 3. A stable, FSO-based distribution (which can be built using the aforementioned stable buildsystem). Someone (from Openmoko) should come up with a stable FSO snapshot and additional apps which would allow a user to call people, manage contacts (at least on the SIM) and send/receive/delete SMS. This distribution could then be used as a base for further development. there was just recently a mail from om lining out the development in this respect. P.S. I'm surprised Nokia hasn't released any competition to Openmoko. A quick thought...if Openmoko feels the hardware of GTA02 is inadequate to even bother making it a stable phone, should there not be some sort of what is so hard in actually reading answers instead of repeating the same wrong statement over an dover? it has been stated several times already that the gta03 you constantly keep refering to, does _NOT_ mean the actual gta03 _HARDWARE_? please, do us all a favour and check the answers in this thread and the mail of john's before beating that death horse again ... ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

Re: Still can't register GSM
did you check if all contacts of the sim are connected? (yes, it used to work before, i know) I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. Connected to what? to the contacts of the fr sim slot. if i remember right, the fr's contacts are just some kind of springs which might very well loose suspension somehow. additionally the sim itself is some kind of plastic which might deform. while each might be completely inside the tolerance, together it might lead to some pads of the sim not being connected with the according pin. putting some paper betwen the slider and the sim or pressing the sim down with a finger might help. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support

Re: Turning FR on after suspention
please prefix any posting with the appropriate distribution (ie 2007.2, 2008.9, FDOM, Debian, FSo)! To turn on FR after it gets suspended I just need to press the Power button on the right side of the phone. Am I right? depends on the distribution used. Cause sometimes it just stays suspended (screen doesn't turn on). Then I usually hold the Power button for some time and FR shuts down. Then I can turn it on. touch the screen. with fso ms4 i experience that, after hitting pwr, the screen lights up very shortly but gets blank again -- probably the idle dim kicks in, tapping the screen turns the light back on. with 2007.2 (the distribution the fr comes with) this is a bug, which will not be fixed, since 2007.2 is dead -- upgrade to another distribution. ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support
Re: [2008.9] Turning FR on after suspention
I'm using om2008.9. But I've left the bootloader as it was from the very begining. debian? fast discharging due to wallcharger?
i noticed the issue occasionally, but never that extreme: sunday night (at about midnight) the battery was at about 53%, thus i plugged in the wallcharger. at about 8:30 the led was blue and the battery at about 83%, re-plugged the charger. when i left home it was at 99%, discharging. i disconnected and supended and did not touch it until 24h later -- and the battery was flat! so. my impression is: charging with the wallcharger may charge faster, but discharges very fast, too! does someone else experience this? ___ support mailing list support@lists.openmoko.org https://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/support
