Good point, it'll be spawning shell instances each initscript as it
stands. If that is heavy then everything is heavy.

I really hope this will bring in a new era of radical experimentation
and contributors!

This is excellent news. I assume this solution does not involve OE at
all and is pure Debian build process.

I use Debian in runlevel 3 at the moment, I noticed the initscripts are
pretty slow. Are there alternative initscript systems around already in
Debian like upstart to allow parallelization? It seems to me this is
"low hanging fruit" that can be improved, especially if you have a free
hand with a fresh OS.

I doubt it, but they are good enough to get debian up and running. However,
touchscreen calibration is what stumped me and eventually made it unusable
for me. Need to try again.

As an Debian afectionado, I'll be compelled to try it. Are the wiki

Re: Debian : Touchscreen calibration

2008-08-13 Thread Thomas Krahn
My experience:

First the calibration for gta02 in the wiki worked fine for me, but after a

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

the pointer didn't follow the stylo anymore. I needed to overwrite
/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules with /etc/udev/udev.rules.dpkg-bak and a
restart of the X server to get it moving again.

But then the pointer was very far off from the tip of the stylo.
Obviously the mode how the calculation of the position worked has
changed with the upgrade. I changed the calibration empirically. The
following /etc/pointercal parameters worked for me:

0 8 -800 -80500 0 7450 65536

(On GATA02v5 after the upgrade!)

BTW:

I also added a short description on how to get GPS working on Debian:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Debian#GPS

the serial connection is named

/dev/s3c2410_serial1
instead of
/dev/ttySAC1

The instructions there are not right. He gives canned numbers when
these vary by individual Freerunner.

You need to install tslib and its utilities (no idea what package, but
it probably is packaged), and run

ts_calibrate

when it exits after you touch the crosshairs in sequence, the magic
numbers it spits to console are the numbers you need to use for your
actual touchscreen.
