AW: [pfSense Support] pfSense on WRAP

2005-10-17 Thread Holger Bauer
The tutorial is for starters or to show how easy it actually is. Some people
that haven't dealt with embedded platforms and/or a routerdistribution like
m0n0wal or pfsense before might expect it as something that can't be easily
done by them. Btw, that's why it is under the basic section and not under
advanced ;-)

In the future if I need more space on the
wrap platform I was considering the same thing.

I haven't voiced this opinion yet, but this is an opportune moment.

Due to the relatively inexpensive prices, I was considering using a 4GB
Minidisk on my Wrap platform. Due to the real disk vs. CompactFlash, the issue
of limited writes goes away (CompactFlash can only accept so many writes over
it's lifetime). It may not be fast, but it would be acceptable.

If I go this route, I will attempt to install a full (LiveCD) version
versus the Embedded version, in order to enable packages and more easily take
advantage of the larger disk.

I haven't voiced this opinion yet, but this is an opportune moment.

Due to the relatively inexpensive prices, I was considering using a 4GB
Minidisk on my Wrap platform. Due to the real disk vs. CompactFlash, the
issue of limited writes goes away (CompactFlash can only accept so many
writes over it's lifetime). It may not be fast, but it would be acceptable.

versus the Embedded version, in order to enable packages and more easily
take advantage of the larger disk.

I was wondering... what would be the downside to having an NFS-mounted file
system for use with packages?

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is:

- Security... someone gets into your PFSense box, they have access to at
least one NFS share.
- CPU: The WRAP platform is pretty lightweight, just having good disk
capacity via NFS or Microdrive does't solve the performance issues with the
platform.

Enable the developer tag in system.

Ok, done. I now see openvpn configuration pages in the web interface.
I'll have to upgrade and hack some pages for ssltunnel when I get some
spare time.

ATM, ssltunnel works by adding rules to packageearly anchor in the ppp
/etc/ppp/ip-up script.

Yeah, Scott pointed out that it should be working now.
Anyway try it, no harm can come from that.

Thanks, So I just install the squid package and ignore the *NOT

only problem. That *not working* sort of put me off.
