for a week, and due to this issue ended up uninstalling the software
and moving forward with Adium.
Sounds like you're on OS X. We recommend Adium on OS X, in fact.

I have been using Linux Mint 17.
I have tried to use the latest version of Pidgin.
The install instructions for using PPA is not working.
It was suggested to request a new PPA for this version from you.
Would you send me the updated PPA when created?
