Firewall, broken DNS implementation in ADSL router, out of date version
of Pidgin, are the most likely.  The debug log may give more clues;
obscure sensitive data before posting it to this, public, mailing list.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.

And Sam Weber spoke on 05/12/2011 06:24 PM, saying:
It happens to randomly; no accounts in particular. Idle method for all
 accounts:

Report: Based on keyboard or mouse usage
 Minutes before idle: 5
 Set status to: Away

Etan beat me to the question about 'From last message sent' (which would
really make sense).

Could you get the Help-Debug Window output of this occurring? Ideally
both from a computer where it occurs and one who witnesses it, but since
that's probably impractical, I'd settle for just the one who witnesses it.

I don't believe (though I'm not overly familiar with Yahoo!) that removing
someone from your list will remove yourself from theirs. If that's correct
then in order to prevent them from seeing you you would need to block
them.

That being said if all you want is to not see them (and they aren't
constantly messaging you in ways you don't like) simply removing them from
the buddy list sounds like it'd be enough to me.

I believe there were some build problems with older versions of Ubuntu
that made building the PPA packages not work correctly so the decision was
made not to continue attempting to build for them (especially as I also
believe those distros are now past end of life).

But as was said you should be able to build pidgin yourself if upgrading
to a current version of Ubuntu (or some other distribution) isn't a viable
option.

This is one of the current known issues with MSN support. I don't believe

MSN protocol that we simply aren't caught up to yet.

I believe there are tickets filed about this (and the other) known issues
affecting MSN if you search for them.

AIM sending chat requests to Google Talk chats

2011-05-16 Thread Patrick Cranston
I use Pidgin to combine chats for two accounts into one client, AIM (work) and
Google Talk (personal). This has worked seamlessly so far, but starting all of
a sudden today, people that I have Google Talk chats open with are telling me
that they are getting repeated messages from my AIM account that
[username]@aol.com wants to chat with them.

It's not interrupting the gChat, that works fine, but they keep getting sent
these chat requests from my AIM account, when I'm not doing anything with AIM
(am signed in but have no open AIM chats and have not tried to start a chat
from
AIM to Google). Pidgin is signed into both accounts, and it seems like if I
have an open gChat then it will send a chat request from the AIM account. I am
apparently annoying the hell out of people that I gChat with, so if this
continues I'm going to have to go back to using two accounts.

It seems like today there is some sort of integration has gone live between AOL
and Google Talk.

http://pidgin.im/pipermail/devel/2011-May/010360.html

I am not interested in having chats from my AIM account to Google, and I don't
want the AIM account in Pidgin sending these chat requests to anyone that I
gChat with via Pidgin. Any ideas?

Re: AIM sending chat requests to Google Talk chats

2011-05-16 Thread Etan Reisner
Google and AOL have indeed worked out some interoperation agreement and
that is the root of what you are seeing.

This interoperation is too new for anyone to really have a good handle on
and certainly too new for us to fully understand how it is supposed to
work and the ways in which it fails to work.

Attempting to IM some...@gmail.com for the first time from an aim account
appears to work correctly for some people (including myself in a quick
test). That is the very first message fails, the Google Talk user gets a
subscription request, and then things work normally after that.

The reverse appears to work similarly (with the first AIM-Google Talk
message still failing, at least with pidgin I imagine the Google Talk/web
client may work around that).

Someone in the #pidgin irc channel was complaining about similar floods of
authorization requests the other day but I don't think that was ever
resolved.

Do you have your Google Talk email address registered as an AIM screen
name? Do the people with whom you are having this problem have that?

no, my Google Talk account is an @gmail.com account that I have not registered
as an AIM screen name. Checked with one of the other @gmail.com accounts I
chat
with via Google Talk who is getting the repeated authorization requests, and
their's has not been registered as a screen name either.

The
query xmlns=jabber:iq:last seconds=300/
bit there is you being told the person was last active 300 seconds (five
minutes) ago.

So something is, in fact, indicating that the person is not active. If you
are certain the 'From last sent message' preference isn't active (and the
user isn't using something like the I'dle Mak'er plugin) then I'm not sure
what else could be going on.

It is also interesting, if that person has a status set to become active
on idle (and has idle set to five minutes), that they aren't changing
status there.

A debug log from the outgoing side might tell us something more (but I
wouldn't count on it).

Buddies not remaining in Assigned group

2011-05-16 Thread Andrew Wynn
I have several buddies that I have moved to a specific group. Every time
theses buddies restart their computer or logon for the first thing in the
morning they re-appear in the group that I have moved them from. These two
buddies are the only ones that I am having this issue with. I have
re-checked all of my settings and can find nothing wrong with my
configuration.

What is the solution to the problem. Moving the buddies multiple times
during the day is a real pain

They move when they log in or when you do? Is this on an internal server?
Are these two buddies part of a shared roster group set up on the server?
Alternatively is this facebook?

Can you get the Help-Debug Window output from when this occurs (either
from when you sign on or when they do). If it happens when you log in then
you'll want to find the snippet of xml that involves the roster entry for
the buddies in question.
