You typoed your gmail address (gmal.com vs. gmail.com).

As far as hotmail goes, it looks like we sent an email to this email
address - check your spam folder.

We actually have required email validation prior to posting for a while
(part of an attempt to reduce spam).

unable to connect

We are unable to connect here at our office. We are all using MSN accounts and
no one had any problems on Monday. We were closed yesterday. We are not

Whilst Microsoft may have changed something recently, that has broken it
this time, you shouldn't be using Pidgin to access MSN for any mission
critical purpose as it has always been against Microsoft's terms of
service to access it using Pidgin. For many months now, any use of MSN,
even with the official client, is at your own risk as support was
withdrawn in favour of Skype, and, in principle, Microsoft could pull
the plug finally without any warning.

I think the real issue is that no one I have talked to today has been able
to use msn, hotmail, etc. accounts that had been previously set up and
working. No, it is not Pidgin per se, and Pidgin is not the carrier, but
does anyone know of changes that MSFT might have made? If I recall a few
years ago MSFT made some changes and for a period of time you could not use
any of the accounts using the Pidgin application - there were some
incompatibilities.

Meredith,

Are you able to close pidgin at all? I've had a similar situation now for a
week, and due to this issue ended up uninstalling the software and moving
forward with Adium.

Given the amount of people complaining about this type of behavior, I'm
wondering if the devs would now take our findings a bit more serious...

Try using Skype to sign on using each of the accounts - especially if
those accounts were never 'verified' using Skype before, then see if
they'll work with Pidgin afterward.

The behavior in the email you're referencing was a failure to
understand the Windows system tray icon behavior. (I don't understand
it, either, I don't use Windows, so I can't help.) It's not related
to whatever issues you're having.

What that has to do with taking things seriously, I don't know. I

Does the hardware firewall filter any traffic? Is your server in the
same subnet as the other computers?

I am not sure of ports offhand, but I know that Bonjour uses UDP on at
least port 5353 with multicast addresses. If Pidgin can't open ports on
the server or if the firewall (hardware or software) blocks the traffic,
it won't work. It might be worth checking the Debug window (Help
Debug Window) to check for messages related to Bonjour problems.

I also haven't tried to use Bonjour on a Windows Server before. Last
time I tried using it was under Windows XP. I would have to defer to
someone else to give more advanced troubleshooting for Windows.
