You can't connect to Pidgin. You use Pidgin to connect to something.

That was my implication, that there may be a server issue- on your end or

The community that supports pidgin do not provide or maintain any
servers that are used by pidgin in normal operation.
Probably wuld be better to migrate to a Jabber server, and controll
