it = pidgin
group = This email list.

I dont think this group is as active and thus you are not
getting responses on the Hangouts posts because of the
reduced general use.

I stopped using it when clients of mine stopped using

Im not sure that your ignorance is excusable. Its right on the front page
of the site. You dont have to install anything - including this app -
to communicate
from computer to computer - but you do need some basic skills.

No Stephen, you can not remove your email from public groups as they

Re: libpurple still active?

2020-09-28 Thread Wade Smart
Sent them here
https://pidgin.im/plugins/?publisher=all==
clicked on Facebook

That sends them here
https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook/wiki

Click on the *nix instructions
https://github.com/dequis/purple-facebook/wiki/Installing-on-*NIX

which says jgeboski is no longer maintaining and dequis
is taking over.

So the instructions are all for jgeboski and the build version stops
at 19.10 (which I think you could still use on 20.04) and the public key
is for jgeboski. The note says - Dec 2019 - redownload the key if
expired - but after 45 min of waiting at the terminal - nothing installs.

I do not see how to install this protocol now for pidgin

Re: Demise of Google Hangouts?

2019-11-05 Thread Wade Smart
I finally dropped pidgin - not because of it but
because all the useful services are making it
so difficult. I have several small businesses
and I used Google(multiple accounts), fb, yahoo
and aim.. and they are all crap now. Companies
wanting to close their IM so they can push
ads and other things I would imagine are seeing
a drop in use.

Re: No pop-up notifications

2019-05-02 Thread Wade Smart
I was just sending this to someone.
Just do the reverse. They wanted the notifications
off..

1.

Right-click on the Pidgin icon in the notification area of the Windows task
bar and click “Plugins” in the contextual menu.

2.

Click on “Message Notification” and click the “Configure Plugin” button at
the bottom of the screen.

3.

Uncheck the “Raise Conversation Window” and “Present Conversation Window”
options. Check the “Insert Count of New Messages Into Window Title” or
“Flash Window” if you still want a visual notification of new messages
without a pop-up window.

4.

Click the “Close” button to close the plugin configuration window then
click the “Close” button to close the plugins list.

Vidhya, images are stripped from this list.
Pidgin is the client that connects TO something.
You need to contact your service provider or IT

I think that ones status is based on the client thru the protocol used.
They might have their status set as invisible or something along those
lines that doesnt show up for you.

Pidgin Zombie Process

2017-07-13 Thread Wade Smart
Pidgin has a status of zombie with N/A on resident memory
and shared memory. Im still using pidgin and havent noticed
a problem but there are at least 100 different pidgin processes
running. My OS is Ubuntu 16.04, Pidgin 2.10.12.

What would cause this to happen and short of killing each one,
what can I do?

Re: Facebook connection error- Null Value

2017-03-29 Thread Wade Smart
So I notice that the package is maintained by someone else.
When I try to update it says:

Reading package lists... Done
W: The repository
'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jgeboski/xUbuntu_15.10
./ Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore
potentially dangerous to use.

I tried changing jgeboski to dequis but that didnt work either.

If dequis has taken over but the files are under jgeboski but those
files now are incomplete???
how does one install the update?

Pidgin is only a client connecting to a service.
Whatever service you use (yahoo, google, facebook,

Re: New Yahoo messenger with Pidgin client

2016-07-12 Thread Wade Smart
My thought is, no.

If users are leaving - why put out the effort.
And the argument - if you put out the effort they might not.
It holds no water. They are leaving because there are better
ways to communicate. I still have my yahoo on for the few
in other countries that use it but as I look over my buddies
list .. I think only 2 still use it.

By changing their protocol - they have further pushed people
out. And Google is doing the same.

Large number of files to be removed upon addon install

2016-02-02 Thread Wade Smart
Because of a bad update file in a recent ubuntu update, I have had
to reinstall my os. It was 32bit before but now Ive gone 64. Im
installing purple-facebook and the number of files to be removed
around well over hundred.

Can anyone using Ubuntu 14 or 15 running 64bit verify this?

Ok... I see this:
patrick.mulli...@oracle.com/PMULLIGA-US (beehive) disabled

Your account is disabled.
You probably have a login issue: username and/or password.
You'll need to check with Oracle support for this. This list is
just for the use of the app itself.

purple-facebook plugin wants to uninstall hundreds of programs

2015-10-07 Thread Wade Smart
Im not on my usual computer. I am attempting to install the
purple-facebook plugin.
After installing the repos I went to install (I use synaptic) and
there is a star in the check box. When I click to install it wants to
uninstall hundreds of programs including apache, firefox, gedit ?? I
have no idea what any of these would have to do with this plugin.

I didnt see anything like this on my other computers. They are all 14.04.

Manny, pidgin does not have support. Its a freely available product.
You are emailing a public mailing list.

You'll need to detail the problem including your OS, version, your
pidgin version and what specific problem you are having and
one of the many thousand on this list (guessing at how many)
may respond.

Re: Not Receiving Messages

Check the accounts you have set up and make sure your username and
passwords are correct.
If you have changed your password on (for example) in gmail then you
would need to update
your password in Pidgin for that account.

This is interesting. Is /home/ra/.purple/logs on a local disk, or
network mounted? What filesystem? You really shouldn't see a
 jillion
EAGAINs on filesystem write, and I'm quite surprised to see those
sendtos. If this is a network filesystem, I suspect the server (or
the network) was out to lunch.

No, all on a local disk. The only thing special here is that the filesystem
 is encrypted:

 [ra@hamburger ~]$ cd /home/ra/.purple/logs/sipe/r...@ok.is%2cok%5cra/.system
 [ra@hamburger .system]$ df -h .

 [ra@hamburger .system]$ mount | grep home

 -rw-rw-r--. 1 ra ra 6174 May 11 15:49 2013-05-11.125047+GMT.txt

Does /var/log/messages or /var/log/dmesg say anything interesting
 from
around the time that this happened? Any disk errors or timeouts?

No, nothing. And disk and/or filesystem errors would have thrown up red
flags for me and would have put my pidgin issue way down on the things to
 worry about list :)

Ive not had any problems with pidgin since last week when I lost connection
and since then Ive seen only two status messages: incorrect username and
password or 503: Service Unavailable.

I went to college with a guy whose wife works for fb. I emailed her on Sunday
and she responded today that this is a issue causing problems for a
lot of users.
She did not go into detail so its probably something they are working on. She
did tell me that it probably wont be fixed for a while. I really dont
like the sound
of that.

Anyway.. hope that helps others relax a bit.

We all just wait :(
