Re: XMPP Visability

2010-11-19 Thread Etan Reisner
pidgin does not support xmpp visibility settings as there isn't (yet) a
good standard for supporting that.

As to whether you can apply invisibilty settings to groups of people at
once that depends entirely on the capabilities of the protocols involved.
I believe some support that and some do not (but don't recally any
specific details).

XMPP Visability

2010-11-18 Thread Sarah Fox
Hello. Just joined this group now.

I've d/loaded the latest version of Pidgin a few days ago (Ive used older
version before)..

1)

When i'm invisible, i can right-click on a user/person, allow them to see
me.
However, I can't do this with XMPP accounts.

(Or is there another way ?)

2) is there a way to move a person, or multiple people to a 'group' check
'presence settings' for the entire group at once ? so they can see me online ?

basically, I want to be left alone, for a few hours a night, but allow
'important' folk to see me.. - if needed.

Is that an option in the official client? I haven't used it in so long I
 haven't a clue.

The Official Client is the one distributed by yahoo themselves, not
some newer version of Pidgin.

Last I knew, the functionality you are asking for didn't exist in that
client. Unless that has changed, it can't exist in Pidgin.

why does it need to be in the official (Yahoo messenger) programme
to be incorporated into Pidgin ?

Either you are visable, or not - Easy...

if the visable command is active (even if you are invisible to the
other people), its just a matter of Pidgin remembering which person
you want visable / to see you, then stick a 'permanent' thing on
it.

so next time you come online - It automatically marks the person as
able to see you.

- no changes needed in Yahoo Messenger system to cope..

Or am I missing something ?

Those functions you are talking about (appear visible and appear
permanently offline) are part of the protocol. If it isn't part of the
official protocol, Pidgin cannot implement it, if I'm understanding
Daniel right, because there is nothing there to implement.

if they ARE part of the protocol - It can be implemented..

I guess i'm lost / or people are getting confused..

:- Yahoo Messenger

:- has protocol to be visable (per member)
:- Has Protocol to be invisable (per member).

Pidgin can activate / use these 2 protocols..

:- pidgin remembers permanently (within the pidgin system - NOT
Yahoo), which members I want to be permanently visable too..

when i log in, pidgin knows I want to be visable to ABC member - it
activates the 'visable' protocol..

The permanent visable part doesn't need to be implemented within
Yahoo messenger itself.

Where is the URL to submit a pidgin idea ? i'll submit it...

No worries - Just an idea - pidgin can use Yahoo's protocols to become
BETTER than Yahoo :)

Not so sure about that. You'd have to ask a dev.

Maybe, but you might try and see if you could script it in a buddy

Bugtracker is the way to go bro (:

Not sure how Yahoo would like that, but that would be awesome

Visability...

2010-04-09 Thread Gordon Stewart
Good day.

when using pidgin, (one of the recent versions..)

I can mark a yahoo person as showing on my screen, even if they are
logged off (I do not show other logged off people)..

now, this setting sticks remains for that particular person - no
matter how many times I log off log back in, I can always see their
status / name on my screen

(I want this)...

However, If i am invisible - i can mark a person, so they can see me
as online - even if I am invisible.

This setting, does NOT stick - I have to manually do that each
time I log in...

(I do see a permanently OFFline setting, so they can NEVER see me
online) - Can there be a permanently ONline setting / option ?

Is there a setting in the latest version of pidgen, so BOTH of these
settings stick and i dont have to manually adjust them when i log
in... - If it does do that, I'll d/load the latest version)

If the second option is not yet available, who do I contact to make a
suggestion ?

Is that an option in the official client? I haven't used it in so long I
haven't a clue. I'd be surprised if it were and hasn't already been
incorporated in Pidgin. That would be a very useful option and I'd be
willing to file a feature request based off your email (if that would be
ok with you).
