HTML in email - no pictures

I tried to speed up email downloads by de-selecting graphics from other sites. Now I cannot re-enable it with the result that email with HTML will not show graphic content. This happened after updating to 2.4.1 How do I get email to show graphics (again)?

The ones which bounce are the ones sent to a hotmail address, all others appear to be OK. My ISP is Pipex and the problem only started after I did driver updates to my Microsoft keyboard and mouse. A system restore doesn't change anything. Any ideas? I can post the error message but it is

In previous versions of SM, you could open links in dropdown bookmark tab lists by right-clicking and choosing Open in New Tab or Open in New Window. In 2.4.1, you can make that choice from simple links in webpages, but the possibility seems to have vanished in the dropdown lists in the bookmark
