Can one stop the side sliding Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, + THING

Some web sites - like FoxNews "Sponsored" sites - keep sliding an annoying set of links in on the left which obscure the Text. Each page viewed has this "slide in" THING and I would like to know if there is anything one can do to stop it ? Top - "f" symbol. Second - Bird symbol (Twitter)
